The Chamber Team is keeping an eye out on local issues so that we may keep you informed on issues of local and regional importance. Here is what we kept an eye on in July and early August.
The Pine Hills Business Redevelopment Task Force did not meet in July but will meet on Monday, August 15th at 11:00 am to 1:00pm at the Orange County Library ~ Hiawassee Branch, 7391 West Colonial Drive, Orlando, Florida 32818 (Hiawassee & West Colonial/Hwy 50).
West Orange/South Lake Transportation & Economic Task Force – Stina D’Uva attended this meeting on Wednesday, July 20th at 7:30am in Winter Garden City Hall. The purpose of the task force is to encourage cooperation and forging partnerships with the goal of providing transportation and economic growth alternatives for the ever growing West Orange and South Lake communities. Chairman Rick Baldochhi led the
meeting at which time the seven voting board members were elected. The new board voted to increase the board to a total of 17 voting members with two of the representatives to be appointed from the West Orange and South Lake Chambers. The group also discussed the planning for a community charette to be held in October. The next meeting will be on August 17th at 7:30am at the commission chambers of the city of Winter Garden.
West Orange Aviation Authority (WOAA) Monthly Board Meeting - Stina D’Uva attended the meeting at 10:00am on Wednesday, July 27th at Ocoee’s city hall. Chairman Guy Haggard reported that the city of Apopka closed on the purchase of X04 FBO, one of the airports in the study area. The city will soon be entertaining bids for operators of the airport. The chairman also reported that they are still awaiting FDOT’s analysis of the feasibility study. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, August 24th at 10:00am at city of Winter Garden commission chambers.
SR 429 Economic Working Group – Stina D’Uva attended this meeting on Wednesday, August 3rd at the city of Winter Garden commission chambers. An analysis of the corridor was presented by Luis Nieves-Ruis, Senior Planner, Orange County. The analysis identifi ed three primary, non-basic industries that may be explored for expansion along this corridor. Those identifi ed areas are: custom software and video pro-duction, nursery and fl oriculture, and metals. During the conversation, the cities of Apopka, Ocoee, and Winter Garden agreed to develop a resolution for approval by all the commissions to foster a continuing working relationship from this region. This will facilitate the effort to seek federal funding(EDA grants) and possible state funding.
Health Care Reform and Your Business At the August “members only” Lunch and Learn event, sponsored by HR On Call and Luck Realty, Terri Seefeldt of Rogers Benefi ts Group in partnership with DRB Benefi ts Group spoke to attendees about the new health care reform laws that have recently taken affect and the laws that are currently scheduled to take affect through 2018. The impact on local businesses will be huge! Check out what these new laws will mean for you, your business, your employees and your clients by visiting:
