Auditions are scheduled for Sunday, August 26, 2018 (classes begin Monday, August 27). One
audition serves all ensembles listed above. All percussion majors (Music Education,
Performance, BA) are required to audition for ensembles and all above selections must be
prepared. Non-preparation or incomplete preparation is unacceptable for the music major,
reflecting upon eligibility for percussion study in the percussion studio. Times slots are only
eight (8) minutes in length; individual pre-preparation and organization is of utmost importance.
These screened (“blind”) auditions are essential for our ensembles and for the musical training of
all students. Prepare at the highest level possible, ensuring sufficient access to instruments in
your community or on the NAU campus. Also, be sure to access and listen to recordings of the
listed orchestral excerpts (perhaps refer to NAXOS resource at Cline Library website).
Appropriate tempos and interpretations are required for these auditions. Play all passages
between brackets [ ] and count all rests between brackets, unless otherwise requested by the
adjudication panel or no brackets are present.
Preparation time on campus is limited, so arrive at NAU as prepared as possible and/or strongly
consider returning to the NAU campus early for access to percussion instruments. Sign-up for an
audition time slot (confidential schedule) by calling: the School of Music office (928/523-3731)
or the Band & Orchestra Office (928/523-3413).
Good luck on your audition performances!
