I created an on-line survey, as it is the quickest way to send it around, gathering up primary research from people’s inside views on what makes a thriller. The site I used to create this survey was 'surveymonkey'. After I sent the results I gave it a weekend to wait until I gathered up the information. Here's what I got.

From these results I found out that the average age to watch a thriller is between the late teens and young adults. However the late teens was the most common with a percentage of 50%

With this next set of research I found out that the most common gender to watch thriller films is male as it has a percentage of 62%.

With this next set of research I found out the most common sub-genre of thriller as it can help to give me and inside view of what people want and to also spark some ideas. The results I found was that Psychological is the most popular sub genre of them all. I also asked why as I waned to see what people like mostly particular in the sub genre they chose. Here are examples of a few responses I got that relate to the chosen sub-genre of psychological.

From these responses I now understand that most people who watch thrillers expect something more on the psychological side and to also play with their head as it creates a far better atmosphere for this particular sub-genre.

In the following question I wanted to find out what people mostly expect to see in a thriller, as this will help me portray the genre in my final piece. I found on average that twists and suspense are the most popular of choices, which again leads me more to the choice of psychological.

In the next question people where asked on how often they watch films in the specific genre, this will help me understand how popular thrillers are compared to other genres. From the results the average amount only watched thriller films once a month. This shows me that thriller isn’t of a popular choice compared toothers such as action

and drama.

For the last question I asked what locations were expected in a thriller and found on average that urban and industrial are the most popular. This helps me create the scenery and create a picture that most people are comfortable with when watching a thriller. In conclusion to these results I know now to create a piece of film that will aim towards those of a late teen’s and early adults as this is the most popular age. I will also create a psychological thriller with the use of urban and industrial environments accompanied by the use of suspense and twists as this is what people expect to see in a thriller and to what makes a good thriller.
