Aluminium die casting on the front strut mounts, aluminium components for linkage rod,swivel bearing and wheel carriers reduce weight and increase agility.

Our promise of “Vorsprung durch Technik” isone that we keep in every area of an Audi – asdemonstrated by the Multi Media Interface(MMI®) which has undergone furtherdevelopment. The MMI is used to operate anumber of in-car media, and other comfortfunctions. Until now, it has been easy to use theMMI – now it is even easier. Fewer buttonsprovide a better overview. The operating buttonsfor radio and media are logically located with thevolume control.

The other six hard keys, for telephone forexample, are located around the central rotary/push-button control – for intuitive operation.Another new feature is the carousel layout in theMMI display. This provides you with an evenbetter overview, making it even easier for you toget to where you want to be. The MMI has aspecial feature: the unique MMI touch. It islocated to the left of the central control paneland is within comfortable reach, particularly incombination with the new selector lever.

MMI touch o ers, among other things, a newand intelligent way of controlling – by“writing” letters or numbers on the touch –sensitive screen with your nger. The Audi R8 was setting standards as early as2008 as the rst sports car with all-LEDheadlights. Now this special lighting is alsoavailable for the Audi A6 on request. All-LEDheadlights (optional) not only require lessenergy than standard lighting systems, but alsoprovide a brighter light which is perceived to bemuch more pleasant. The dipped beam consistsof a distinctive line of three individual light

modules. This makes the Audi A6 unmistakable,even at night. The main beam, daytime runninglights and indicators are also made in LEDtechnology. The use of the same material for allfunctions makes completely new lighting e ectspossible. The Audi A6, therefore, has the rightlight for every situation: It has a motorway lightwhich, at speeds above 110 km/h, automaticallyalmost doubles the range of the light cone (from

approx. 70 m at dipped beam to 120 m withmotorway light). In addition,the A6 Sedan has a combined daytime runninglight/indicator light unit and an all-weatherlight which makes conventional fog lightssuperuous. The individual LED modules areskilfully controlled to redistribute the light,reducing glare from rain or fog.

Audi cylinder on demand in the TFSI ® engineIf the V8 4.0 TFSI ® engine of the Audi S6 does not require the full power of the 8 cylinders in thepartial-load range, the inlet - and outlet valves of 4 cylinders – 2 each per cylinder bank – are closedby Audi cylinder on demand and their ignition and fuel injection are switched o . This means thatneither is air taken in, fuel injected nor is exhaust gas emitted. The deactivation depends on severalfactors: the engine speed must be between 960 and 3,500 rpm, the vehicle must be travelling at aminimum speed of 25 km/h and on the 7-speed S tronic you must be driving in third gear or higher.
