WELCOME TO AUDACITY
Audacity is a free tool that records and edits sounds
If you need to download Audacity, go to http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ and select Download Audacity 1.2.6 instead of Audacity 1.3.12, because the later edition is still a “work in progress”.
IN THIS DEMONSTRATION, YOU WILL LEARN HOW TO: Import existing music (you own legally, i.e.
from Amazon.com downloads) into Audacity so you can edit it
Change the pitch (highness or lowness of sound)
Change the tempo (speed of the steady beat) without changing the pitch
Cut away unwanted sections of music or sound
Record your own sounds for future editing Export what you created as a WAV file or as
an MP3

GET FEEDBACK Once your Audacity project is saved as a
WAV file, you can send it to me in an e-mail for feedback
Send your audio file as an attachment to [email protected] as a demonstration of your new skill
You can forward any of your questions to this e-mail, or you can use the Audacity wiki as a resource: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Audacity_Wiki_Home_Page
THINGS YOU CAN DO WITH YOUR WAV FILE
Burn your audio onto a CDmake sure it is a CD-R or CD-RW
Play it from your Media Player (Windows)
Continue to edit it in Audacity Save it on your computer’s hard drive or
on a memory stick Send audio/verbal feedback on a
student’s assignment to their e-mail
CHANGE THE FILE FORMAT FROM WAV TO MP3
When you want to download your newly created audio to another device, you need to save your Audacity file as an MP3
Audacity itself cannot encode audio as an MP3, so you need to download Lame MP3 Encoder Go to http://lame.buanzo.com.ar to download Once you have it, you will have a file called
lame_enc.dll, LameLib or libmp3lame.dylib The first time you want to export an MP3 file,
Audacity will ask you for the location of this file, so remember where you saved it
