    Re: Onondaga County Man Arrested for Robbing Auburn Convenience Store

    On Tuesday December 13 th, 2011 at approximately 7:21pm, the Cayuga County E-911Center received a call from an employee at 50 Owasco St., Fine Food and Gasconvenience store reporting that he had just been assaulted and robbed. The employeereported that the suspect, a white male, had just fled the scene on S. Fulton Street towardsE. Genesee Street driving a yellow Dodge Neon.

    Officer David Walters was on routine patrol on Grant Avenue when the robbery call wasdispatched. He quickly observed a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description onBrookside Dr. at the intersection of Grant Ave being operated by a white male. OfficerWalters proceeded to turn around in order to get behind the possible suspect vehicle andprior to activiating his emergency lights to indicate a traffic stop, the vehicle turned rightonto Grant Ave and fled at a high rate of speed. Officer Walters immediately activatedhis emergency lights and sirens and attempted to get the vehicle to stop but the vehiclefailed to comply. Sgt. Edward Fabrize then joined the pursuit on Grant Avenue Roadwhich continued through the Village of Elbridge and eventually ended in the Village of Camillus in the area of 72 Main Street where the suspect lost control of the vehicle,

    striking curbing. The white male suspect exited the Dodge Neon and fled on foot. Aftera short search of the area the suspect was found hiding underneath a pine tree on JoelDrive in the Village of Camillus. The suspect, identified as 24 year old Daniel Boydenwas then taken into custody.

    Further investigation into the incident revealed that at approximately 7:15pm Boydenentered the Fine Food and Gas Convenience store to purchase lottery tickets. When theclerk rang up the purchase, Boyden stated he did not have enough money and said he hadto return to his car to get more money. The clerk walked into the stores office and a shorttime later Boyden came back into the store, walked behind the store counter and struck the clerk in the head with a 40 oz. bottle of beer, demanding the clerk open the register.

    The clerk stated he then ran from the store. Once outside, the store clerk reported seeingthe male then flee the store with the entire register and get into a yellow Dodge Neon.

    The store clerk was susequently transported to Auburn Memorial Hospital for treatmentof his injuries which included numerous facial fractures. Boyden was subsequentlycharged with robbery in the 1 st degree, assault in the 2 nd degree with additional chargespending to include over a dozen uniform traffic tickets from several jurisdicitions.

    The Auburn Police Department would like to thank the several agencies that assisted inthe safe apprehension of Boyden. Those agencies include the Cayuga County SheriffsOffice, New York State Police, Jordan Police Department, Camillus Police Departmentand the Onondaga County Sheriffs Office road patrol and Air One patrol untis.
