Personal Statement

My Interest in Psychology has been for as long as I could remember. Even as a child I could sit in a park for hours and study the people passing by, and the relationships they would display through intimate interaction. As I grew, into my adult years, and entered college, I always knew Psychology to be almost a second nature topic. I obtained my first degree from Butte College, Oroville Ca. I received an A.A. Degree, Psychology. I then decided I wanted to continue with my education and to date, I am very happy to be nearing my graduation for a Bachelors Of Arts Degree, Psychology, from Argosy University.

When I was nearing the end of my A.A. Degree, I was given the opportunity to work with local Midwife. After attending

training, I began assisting mothers through the course of natural childbirth. As I participated, I began to apply my Psychology knowledge to the natural aspects of birthing. It has become a very fascinating aspect to psychological knowledge. The more I learn, the more I want to dive even further into the many ways Psychology can be applied to such a natural, human behavior, as birthing.

As I further my education, I would like to pursue a graduate degree with a focus on a Masters of Arts, Prenatal and Prenatal Psychology. There seems a great need for this focus. Often times many are not aware of this great necessity, but as my time has much been focused on the field of birthing mothers, it is clear to me that necessity is great.

In terms of a career, I do view myself counseling birthing mothers and their partners, as they prepare for such life changing events as birth. At this time, I enjoy the contact I am offered through my work as a Birthing assistant and childbirth Educator. This keeps me interested in continuing my education so I may eventually be able to professionally offer the skills and services I enjoy to be a part of.

Reflection

Within the passed 3 years of attending Argosy university, I have been offered a great opportunity to expand on my knowledge and understanding, within the field of psychology. The communication and collaboration of fellow students, as well as the challenges placed through academics, has offered me, as a student, endless ways to strengthen and grow, my interests for psychology. I am confident that I have gained the education needed to fill all aspects of my degree obtained, and I am eager to continue with a life long challenge of learning. I cannot say enough, when I speak of the gratitude I feel to have been given this chance to complete this long term goal I have had for many years. As an adult learner, it seemed so overwhelming to go back and encounter the traditional University learning. Argosy has offered me a fantastic education through distance learning, as well as given me the chance to full fill my dreams.I could not be more happy about the choices I have made to complete my B.A. Psychology. Argosy has been one of the best decisions I have made, in my life.

My Future in Learning

As a life long learner, I plan to be continuously open to new concepts and understandings within the field of psychology and any related field of interest. I know I will directly continue my education as well as utilize life experience to continuously gain from life and the learning involved. Life is a joy when looked at as a journey, and can even be more joyous when gaining more understanding within each step. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a life long learner, and to embark on a world that has to offer endless understanding.
