We were the smallest group to perform but the children (all 15 of them!) managed to fill the auditorium with their beautiful voices and we were extremely proud of them. We also enjoyed watching the other schools perform both on the screen and from the balcony and the children enjoyed their evening very much. Thank you to Mrs Callaghan for practising with the group every Monday after school and for organising the performance. We have some very talented actors and singers in our midst! Newsletter No. 11: 23rd November 2018

Our Catholic Life Attached to this newsletter is a Parent Survey on St Margaret Clitherow as a Catholic Commmunity. We would really appreciate it if you could spend some time completing this for us. On the 22nd and 23rd May, we will be inspected under the Code of Canon Law S48. This inspection is led by the diocese and focuses on our ‘catholic life’, our worship, how we look after the children and families at our school, as well as the teaching, learning and assessemnt of Religious Education. The inspectors will talk to the children, staff and the pastoral team, as well as myself and the IAB about how we live out the mission and Gospel Values in our school. They will observe an act of worship and attend lessons as well as look at the work in the childrens’ Special Books. Your perspective, as parents and carers, is a very important part of the process. As you know, we have worked very hard and come a long way on our journey. I am confident that the inspectors will capture the progress we have made both in terms of academic success but also in developing that distinctiveness that makes us a catholic school.

Torbay Autism Peer Support:

There has been a new group set up for people in the Torbay area who care for someone with autism, whether they have an

official diagnosis or are waiting for assessment. The idea behind the group is that those who have attended courses such as

Early Bird or Cygnet can share their knowledge with others; it is also an opportunity to share ideas and daily struggles to

help each other. In time, the group hopes to meet up but for now we have been asked to share their facebook page – see St

Margaret Clitherow facebook for the link.

Guardians of our heritage – Local Heroes of History

This is a project set up to raise the profile of Brixham Heritage Museum and to encourage local children and young people to

see themselves as ‘guardians’ of Brixham heritage. This is very much in-keeping with our focus on stewardship and our

responsibility towards God’s creation. We also want to encourage our children to get involved in the local community and be

inspired by local heroes. Attached to the newsletter is a leaflet with details of a story competition about Captain Sassy, one

of the seven superheroes created by children at last year’s Brixfest. The winners will have their story printed in a special

book – perfect for our budding authors here at SMC! The closing date is 30th April and winners will be announced at the

Brixham Pirate Festival. Please email entries to [email protected] or deliver to the museum on Mondays to

Fridays between 10am and 4pm.

Themes over Easter:

8th April: Forgive Each Other

15th April: Jesus’ Passion

22nd April: JESUS IS ALIVE!

Dear Jesus, I would like to pray for all those who are suffering because someone they love has died. Please comfort them and bring them hope. Amen

Easter Bonnet Parade

With Easter coming so close to our return date to school and because our focus these last few weeks has been on the events

of Holy Week and how we prepare for Easter, we have decided to have an Easter Bonnet Parade on Friday 26th April. This

will give your children a project for the Easter holiday and allow us to celebrate Easter when we come back to school. Our

RE topic will be EASTER from the 23rd April to 17th May – RE newsletter will come home the first week of term to let you

know what your children will be learning.

CAN YOU HELP:

I would like to thank the adults who give so generously of their time to help with reading. Hearing children read every day is so

important and we are desperate for more volunteers – please let Mrs Gibson know if you can help. Mrs Stone has requested

some materials for her construction area – large cardboard boxes, plastic/cardboard guttering; milk crates or buckets; also if you

have any old phones (even mobiles) or plastic teas sets that you could donate to the role play area, it would be greatly

appreciated. Thank you
