The Provox Essential Three: Voice Prosthesis, HME and AttachmentThe solution for enhanced voice restoration and improved pulmonary health

The Provox System has been developed with voice-restoration and lung-rehabilitation in mind. The system offers three core product lines – the Provox voice prostheses, Provox HMEs and Provox attachments. We call it a system since the combination of products from all three product lines provides an even more powerful solution than the products as stand-alone devices. As in life, together we are stronger. Finding the right combination of Provox voice prosthesis, HME and attachment is key in giving each user a good voice and pulmonary health. Therefore, the Provox System has a wide range of products to assist people in finding the solution that works for them.

Provox AttachmentsThe Provox System offers a complete range of attachment options to find the optimal solution. Atos Medical is a pioneer in this field, and we continuously strive to develop new patient-friendly products, all based on evidence and experience.

Provox HMEs and Speaking ValvesProvox XtraFlow and XtraMoist provide enhanced airflow and humidification in

a very small and discreet design. Provox FreeHands FlexiVoice offers

both the possibility to speak hands-free and with manual

occlusion.Provox Voice ProsthesesThe Provox System offers a complete range of voice prostheses and accessories to provide users with good voice quality, low speaking effort, comfort, and easy device maintenance.

Provox® Voice ProsthesesProvox Voice ProsthesesThe Provox System offers a complete range of standard voice prostheses and accessories to provide users with good voice-quality, low speaking effort, comfort, and easy device-maintenance. In addition, several specialty voice prostheses and accessories are available for solving problems, such as early leakage through, and around, the voice prosthesis.

Provox® Vega™ Puncture SetA disposable surgical set for primary and secondary placement of the Provox Vega voice prosthesisThe Provox Vega Puncture Set allows voice prosthesis insertion immediately after creating the tracheoesophageal (TE) puncture. Insertion is made in three steps - Protect, Puncture and Place.

Protect - The transparent pharynx protector (intended for primary puncture only) protects the pharyngeal walls. Puncture - The puncture needle creates the puncture, and is used to introduce the GuideWire through the puncture site. Place - The TE puncture is gradually dilated when the dilator, attached to the Provox GuideWire, is pulled through the same. The voice prosthesis, thereafter, slides gently into position.

In a multicenter clinical study, 100% of the voice prostheses could be placed using the Provox Vega Puncture Set; 89% of the procedures required no additional instruments.

The Provox LaryButton sits inside the stoma by itself and prevents the tracheostoma from shrinking. It is used to hold the Provox HME’s, Provox ShowerAid and the Provox FreeHands HME®.

1. Sizing of the Provox LaryButton:

• Your ability to use the LaryButton depends on the size and shape of your stoma. It should fi t well into your stoma without causing irritation. Your clinician needs to size you using a Provox LaryButton Sizing Kit.

2. Inserting the Provox LaryButton:

• Lightly lubricate the small end of the LaryButton that fi ts into your stoma. Use only a water soluble lubricant.

• Fold the narrow end of the LaryButton in half with your fi ngers or hemostat and hold it fi rmly folded.

• Insert the narrow end into your tracheostoma and release your fi ngers.

• Gently tug on the LaryButton tabs to insure the LaryButton is seated in the correct position.

• Confi rm that the LaryButton is in the correct position and is not pushing on the voice prosthesis.

• Th e LaryButton can be secured with the Provox LaryClip™ or a Provox TubeHolder.

• Insert a Provox Heat and Moisture Exchanger (HME) or Provox FreeHands HME into the opening of the LaryButton.

• Determine the wear schedule with your clinician.

Provox® LaryButton™ When and How to Use

TIP: A wear schedule will gradually build up tolerance to the Provox LaryButton preventing stomal irritation.

After your laryngectomy, the function of the nose and upper airways are lost because you are breathing through your tracheostoma instead of your nose. The air you breathe is not warmed or humidi ed, often resulting in increased sputum production and coughing. In order to compensate for the humidifying e ect your upper airway used to provide, you now need a Heat Moisture Exchanger (HME). The HME is placed over your stoma and held in place by an adhesive or a stomal attachment. The HME conditions and humidi es your airway - close to what your nose once did. Most people who consistently use the Provox Heat and Moisture Exchanger (HME) 24/7 often experience fewer problems with coughing and mucus production.1,2

1. Work with your clinician to nd a stomal attachment that works best for you:

• Try diff erent types and shapes of adhesives to fi nd the best fi t

• Try other attachment methods such as a Provox LaryTube™ or Provox LaryButton™

2. Work with your clinician to determine the most eff ective HME:

• Provox XtraMoist HME™ - humidifi cation is improved and good airfl ow is maintained; closest to normal nasal function

• Provox XtraFlow HME™ - delivers superior airfl ow; great to use when exercising, adapting to using an HME, and for those that prefer lower resistance breathing.

3. Keep track of the changes in your pulmonary symptoms:

It may take some days or weeks of continuous HME use (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) before you start to feel the reduction in coughing and mucus production. In the beginning, it may seem to increase. Th is is normal.

Write down the number of your coughs per day before you start using the HME. Now write down the number of coughs after using the HME on days 7, 14, 21, and 28. Your coughing should diminish, if it does not consult your healthcare provider.
