Boat Type Chris White designed ‘Atlantic 48’ high performance cruising catamaran – designed as to blend the best attributes of the Atlantic 42 and the Atlantic 55 (later lengthened to 57).
Build Details Resolute II was built by Bonger’s Marine, Strand, Cape Town, South Africa, and launched in April 2005 named ‘RESOLUTE’. A builder’s certificate is available. Resolute was the eleventh Chris White Atlantic catamaran built by Bongers, and was built under the close supervision of Chris White, at the same time as Chris’s own boat (an Atlantic 55) was being built

Description The award winning, Atlantic Catamaran™ pilothouse design layout features a mid-ship cockpit for easy short-handed sailing combined with a full visibility pilothouse aft of the cockpit which includes a duplicate steering station with engine controls and instruments. This configuration has been imitated by others, yet no one has succeeded in building a better cruising cat than the Atlantic Catamaran™ series.
A fully equipped galley is located in the starboard hull adjacent to the pilot house. A double cabin is located mid ships in each hull. A single cabin is located forward in both hulls. The forward section of the port hull includes a storage locker suitable for sailboards or other bulky gear. Each hull contains a head with vanity and ample stowage, a separate shower compartment is located aft in the port hull. The pilothouse table can be lowered to sleep an additional person (total capacity: 7 berths).
After launch, Resolute II was professionally sailed to the Caribbean, and then spent the next 5 years there enjoyed each winter by Kent and Connie Blaisie, the original owners. She was purchased by Ken Gibson in December 2010, and professionally sailed to Sydney, Australia, in early 2011. She has since cruised the South Pacific, and is now planning a trip with the World ARC rally from Darwin to St Lucia. The boat has been meticulously maintained and upgraded throughout her life, with significant refits in 2011, in 2013 and most recently in 2016. She presents in superb condition.

History – ownership, major voyages
ERA DETAILS
2005 – 2010 Build in Capetown and early years based in the Caribbean
Resolute was designed and built for J. Kent and Constance W. Blaisie, of Philadelphia. The Blaisies had previously owned an Atlantic 42, and after also sailing on an Atlantic 55, decided they wanted something in-between and so commissioned Chris White to design the Atlantic 48.
The Blaisies owned the boat from May 2005 until October 2010. During that time, the boat was professionally delivered from Cape Town to the Caribbean, and then spent the next 5 years there, stored on the land for the hurricane season each year, and meticulously maintained. It was only lightly sailed, and at the time of sale, the engines had only 500 hours on them.

2011 New Owner and move to Australia
In November 2010, Ken Gibson, of Sydney, Australia purchased the boat in Grenada, in the Caribbean. After some maintenance work, the boat was delivered professionally to Sydney, Australia, and since then, has been moored at Greenwich Baths, Sydney. The name was changed to ‘Resolute II’ upon arrival in Australia to allow registration as an Australian vessel. The boat was comprehensively refit in June and July 2011 (see details in Appendix)
2012 Trip to Fiji and Vanuatu
In April, 2012, Resolute II sailed from Sydney to Fiji and then Vanuatu and then back to Sydney, over a four month period.
In November 2012, annual maintenance and repairs were carried out, and then in March 2013, the mast was lifted out and all standing rigging was replaced.
2013 Trip to New Caledonia
In May 2013, Resolute II sailed to New Caledonia and cruised over a 3 month period. Amongst other highlights, Resolute II won the Multihull Division 1st on corrected time in the ‘2013 Great Lagoon Regatta’.
In December, 2013, Resolute II then undertook another major maintenance and upgrade program. This time the boat was fully repainted (topsides, deck, wheelhouse) with AWLGrip, new SD60 saildrives were fitted and the B&G electronics were upgraded.
2014 Trip to the Louisiades, Papua New Guinea
From July 2014, Resolute sailed north to Airlie Beach, then Townsville and then on to the Louisiades, Papua New Guinea. Resolute came 2nd in the Airlie Beach Race Week (Catamaran Cruising Division) and then 1st in the Magnetic Island Race week (Catamaran Cruising Division). In December 2014, Resolute II spent two weeks at ‘Boatworks’ on the Gold Coast, with another extensive maintenance and upgrading program, including new ‘Flexofold’ propellers. 2015 was a quiet year for Resolute, with just local cruising.
2016 Comprehensive Refit
In January 2016, Resolute was sailed back to the Gold Coast to prepare the boat for its trip to the Caribbean. The work list has been comprehensive, and includes installation of a Fleetbroadband satellite, complete review of standing rigging, replacement of most running rigging, galley benchtops replaced, all wheelhouse seating recovered, steering lines replaced, new wind generator fitted. Comprehensive maintenance records are provided in the Appendix.
August 2016 to April 2017
RESOLUTE II will join the ‘World ARC’ rally to sail from MacKay, Queensland to St. Lucia in the Caribbean.

APPENDIX – MAJOR MAINTENANCE AND UPGRADE HISTORY
Whilst owned by the Blaises, Resolute was professionally maintained in the Caribbean on an annual
cycle to coincide with the sailing season.
Under current ownership, Resolute II has been slipped annually (twice in 2012) and maintained
meticulously. The boat undertook a major refit in June and July 2011, had all standing rigging replaced
in March 2013, and then was repainted and had new Yanmar SD 60 saildrives fitted in December 2013.
In December 2014, the boat spent two weeks on the hard at ‘Boatworks’ on the Gold Coast, for annual
maintenance and repair, and new Flexofold propellers were fitted.
In February and March 2016, the boat then undertook a comprehensive refit at Boatworks ahead of the
planned trip to the Caribbean. Both the 2014 and 2016 refits were managed by Tim Sales – a fully
qualified shipwright, marine electrician and surveyor.
