Exercise 1: Search for articles about Images of Women.

Analyse the concepts and think of alternative terms:

Freetext examples: representations of women; film, art, novels

    Subject headings in ATLA Women in the Bible;

Step 1: Do a comparison search: in Subject field.

    Step 2: Combine these e.g.

Limiting or Expanding Your Search Results

    Limiting your search results

You can always limit your search results by clicking the tab. From here you can limit your search results to: ▪ full text only ▪ articles published in scholarly journals only ▪ a particular journal ▪ within a certain period of time

Exercise 2: Limit your search to (gift of tongues in default or glossolalia in Subject) .

    Choose to refine your search

Choose to search using the scripture citation field

E.g. to find articles about Jerusalem which cite either Book of Kings:

If you want to be more precise about the scripture reference you

must follow the unusal citing style e.g. Kings, 2nd 22 means 2 Kings 22.

Another approach is to use the indexes button and type in the

book and chapter you want, then select from the browse list,

click on Add, then on Search e.g. looking for Deuteronomy 8

    verses 1-10.

    Search Results

    Citation and records

The citations of the articles will be displayed in the search

results. The citation provides bibliographic information about

the article. It normally includes article title, author and source

(journal title, date of publication, volume, issue, page numbers).

EBSCOhost article formats – HTML and PDF

Records in EBSCOhost may be available in several formats:

The link will show you all our holdings from Voyager, both print and electronic.

    OR

    Click on the

    title link

    Citation

The citation includes the article’s author, title and where

the article was published, as well as an abstract (brief

summary of the article) Where available it continues with

    the Full Text.

    HTML

    Full Text

    without

    graphics

The HTML Full Text (without graphics) format

includes the citation and abstract, along with the complete

text of the article. It does not include graphics such as

photographs, illustrations or charts that were originally

    published with the article.

    PDF

    Full Text

The PDF Full Text format is a scanned image of the

article pages as they were originally printed, delivered in

PDF – Portable Document Format. The benefits of this

version include: page numbering of the printed

publication, compact font size that is easier to read and

often uses fewer pages when printed.

    An example of Citation format:

    Citation: title, author and source

    An example of PDF format:

PDF format is good for printing. HTML format is good for viewing online and for

    saving onto disk.
