ATI 8 had once again made worthwhile contributions to the regional development, to the Institute goals and to our people’s aspirations. Its aggressive promotion of techno–based farm practices brought gains to farmer-entrepreneurs and other stakeholders. We continued to harness the po-tentials of the provincial agriculture and fishery extension networks by providing them opportunities to learn from those who blazed the trail ahead of them, keep-ing themselves attune to newer strategies of meeting the growing challenges of rural development.

The Center actively pushed agricul-tural development through training and ex-tension, organizational development, and resource generation. It empowered its clien-tele with skills and values for them to meet their needs effectively in self-reliant and in-dependent manner. With its limited resource, the center continued to collaborate with local govern-ment units, government and non-government agencies, rural-based and peo-ples’ organizations to create significant im-pacts in the lives of our clientele.

With ATI’s avowed mission of enabling extension agents, the Cen-ter conducted 189 trainings in rice (166) that include farmers’ field schools, corn (2), high value crops (4), livestock (3), fishery (1), bio-organic farming (7), and institutional development (6). It conducted 59 briefings and orientations on FSTP-corn, vegetables production in schools and AFEN; and managed/facilitated nine educational tours. The training served 4,931 cli-entele; 2,852 males and 2,079 fe-males.

Techno-demo farms were established to showcase im-proved technologies and to demonstrate better farm prac-tices. With the Center’s farmer-cooperators, 161 demo-farms on rice were set up. The Center provided some of the farm in-puts and teamed up with the ex-tension agents in monitoring and assessing the benefits derived from the adopted technologies. There were 4,022 who graduated from the 161 farmers’ field schools where sharing of information were done right in the farmer’s field.

The Center also tied up with other agencies in the conduct of the Farmer Scientist Corn-based Training Program where it assisted in setting up demonstration areas for corn pro-duction, and with the Department of Education through the technology livelihood educators for the 25 vege-table gardens in schools. Both programs provided cli-ents direct contact with agricultural experts who helped them improve technical capabilities to grow their crops using appro-priate technologies.

Business AdvisoryBusiness AdvisoryBusiness AdvisoryBusiness Advisory ATI 8 assisted rural-based organizations and 4H clubs for them to be gainfully employed and to participate actively to the growth and development of the national economy. It funded 30 4H club projects in the region amounting to P1,023,600. We provided advisory for the successfully implemen-tation of RBO’s projects and oriented them on values and principles that they need to cultivate to effectively work as a team. There were 830 members of rural-based and people organizations that were given assistance in their farm and business enterprises. We also responded to local govern-ment units’ requests for technical expertise to help improve their projects in agriculture and environment specifically on solid waste management and organic fertilizer production.

The ATI through its Ex-panded Human Resource De-velopment Program (EHRDP) implemented the capability de-velopment programs to its staff and clientele to ensure better delivery of services.

With the signing of MOA with state universities and col-leges for the implementation of the ERHDP, ATI extended finan-cial assistance to Region 8 stu-dents in the doctoral (7) and master's (8) degrees. ATI also provided schol-arship to 25 students for the bachelor's degree program un-der its Youth in Agriculture and Fisheries Program in further-ance to the mandate of AFMA.

The Center continued to sent staff to non-degree pro-grams and conducted team building activity, a breather and a time to refresh staff of their mission, restore unity impaired by job-related stress and renew one’s strength to push forward in the tough task of rural develop-ment.

We continued to strengthen our ties with our partners in the region by actively participating in development en-deavours as member of the Regional Research and Devel-opment and Extension Network, the Visayas Consortium for Agriculture and Resources Program, Regional Cooperative Development Council, and the Regional Management Council. We also joined hands with the local government units in their agriculture, fishery, and environment programs and continued to enhance the capabilities of our provincial agriculture and fishery extension networks with whom we pooled resources to expand the sphere of our services. The Center was main sponsor of the Farmers and Fishers’ Day of the Visayas State University during the lat-ter’s 85th anniversary.

The Center was able to gen-erate P639,856.75 from the rental of its facilities and equipment that helped enhance our services.

We improved our facilities and upgraded our equip-ment to provide a better learning environment.

The Center managed also downloaded fund from our partners in the region for the conduct of training and other extension-related activities in addition to those provided for by the Institute.
