WINTER UNIFORM

As we move into the cooler part of the year, parents may need to consider purchasing a school jacket or jumper for their student. We have a contractual agreement with Daylight Sportswear and our school uniform should only be purchased from the school at the Uniform Shop.

Last year we went through a process, working with the P&C Association and Student Council, to introduce a sloppy joe as a uniform option. They are reasonably priced at $34. We will also continue to sell the woollen jumpers, cardigans and jackets. Students will only be permitted to wear tops with the school crest purchased through the school and parents should not look for alternative options through other suppliers.

Families with financial concerns should contact the Front Office if assistance is required.

Busways would like to remind students to tap on and tap off with their School Opal cards when they travel to and from school. Opal data gathered by tapping on and off is used to determine demand for bus services. If students don’t tap on and tap off, services may be cancelled due the lack of recorded patronage. With this in mind, we ask for your assistance in reminding your students that tapping on and off at the beginning and end of each trip is one of the conditions of using a School Opal card. Your assistance will help Busways ensure they are able to provide the appropriate level of service to your students.

As you are aware, over the past decade there has been an exponential growth in the use of mobile phone technology, social networking media and the use of the internet by children and young people for personal and educational use. These new technologies and social media have brought significant benefits to young Australians, but also expose them to a number of risks. As a school we have been proactive in reducing the incidences and harmful effects of cyber-bullying and I would encourage all parents to undertake an active role in understanding and monitoring your child’s electronic communication. It is important to remember that supervision of usage is not the school’s responsibility but remains a parent/carers role. What you can do: Talk to your child- Discuss online safety and reassure your child that you are there to help if they need it. Provide safe and supervised access- Keep your family computer in a high traffic area so you can keep an eye on your child’s technology use. Install safety software on your computer. Monitor technology use- Take an interest in what your child is doing online. Remind your child of ‘stranger danger’, they might think they are talking to another child but it could be an adult. Get involved and be aware- Has your child’s behaviour changed recently? Are they spending more or less time

online? Are your mobile phone bills suddenly through the roof? Encourage your child to come to you if anybody says or does anything to make them feel uncomfortable. Keep your knowledge up to date – visit: www.schools.nsw.edu.au/news/technology Offensive websites: If you are concerned about offensive websites, contact the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) www.acma.gov.au and they will investigate the matter. Report harassment and threats: Report incidents of online harassment to your local police and your Internet Service Provided (ISP). If your child is bullied through a mobile phone, report the problem to your phone service provider. They can help you block messages or calls from certain senders. If the problem is persistent, you may want to consider changing your number. Helpline for parents and carers: For confidential support, call the Net Alert helpline on telephone 1800 880 176. Helpline for children and young people: Confidential counselling is available for children and young people from the Kids Help Line on telephone 1800 551 800. The DoE Suspension and Expulsion Policy includes specific mention of bullying and cyber bullying in the short suspension category Aggressive Behaviour. Please be aware these procedures can be applied for incidents which occur outside of school hours and school grounds, and include the use of social networking sites, mobile phones or other technology to bully, harass etc. This includes videoing, receiving and/or transmitting images of violent acts.
