Head of Sport and Activities—Mr Dave Capra
EREA Network
Over the past 4 days I have been away at an EREA formation where we looked at the life and charism of Edmund Rice and how this shapes our culture as a school and how it influences the way in which we educate our boys. Certainly for my role as an RE teacher at ATC this was informative and a great opportunity to gather more knowledge which will guide my teaching. More so however, in my role in leading sport at ATC, it gave me the opportunity to step back and assess to what extent our sporting pro-gram mirrors the intent of Edmund Rice education. From the four days of learning and discussion with colleagues from the other QLD EREA schools, the part that spoke strongest to me was Edmund Rice’s strive to ensure that “the dear little ones” remained at the focus of education. Whilst it is somewhat difficult to see our boys as the “dear little ones”, (particularly our middle school lads), it affirmed for me the ATC sport philosophy of keeping boys at the centre of all that we do. The boys must always be the focus of our program—not the promotion or betterment of the school through their performance.
The decisions that we make, the competition we seek, the opportunities that we provide and most importantly the interactions that we have with our boys through our sport program are to give them the opportunity to be the very best that they can be. I would hope that through your sons experience in sport thus far at ATC, that he has felt that he is important, valued and chal-lenged, regardless of the sport or level of competition.
The ‘end game’ (thanks Mr Finn) is to engage boys in a lifelong love of physical activity, to understand the physical, mental and social benefits of participation in physical activity and hopefully continue to play sport, participate in physical activity, promote a healthy lifestyle and give back to their community through sport and physical activity well beyond their time at ATC. I hope your son is well along this path and if not I would love to talk to you (and your son) about how we can engage him in physical activity at the College, for his own personal enjoyment and growth.
Triathlon
This weekend 11 of our triathletes will be heading to the Moreton Bay Tri which is the first one of the season for ATC. We wish the boys the very best of luck and look forward to hearing how they go. Good luck gents

On Monday 14 September we will be opening the uniform shop for an additional fitting session during our Cricket Muster from 2.30pm to 5.30pm, however as we have over 280 boys playing cricket this year, if you require uniforms and have the opportunity to visit the uniform shop outside this time, we would recommend doing so!

ATC Athletes Compete At Ipswich Athletics Carnival Last Sunday 30 August, 10 Ambrose Treacy College athletes competed at the annual Ipswich Athletics Club Carnival and Gift.
Throughout the meet our athletes competed across both track and field events. It was a very special moment for our throwers
who had the privilege of ‘sharing the discus circle’ and competing in the same competition with Matt Denny.
Matt has already represented Australia on many occasions at World
Youth and World Junior Games and is currently Australia’s best jun-
ior (under 20) Discus (66.81m)/Hammer (79.11m) thrower and is
IAAF ranked No 3 and No 5 respectively in the world for these
events.
It was a fantastic opportunity for our athletes to watch up close,
learn and compete in the same competition with such a world class
discus thrower.

ATC Cricket Coordinator—Mr Brett Henschell
The registration period for ATC Term 4 Junior Club Cricket has now closed. More than 280 boys have registered and, as a result, the College will be nominating 23 teams to the Brisbane North Zone (up from 12 teams this time last year). As Term 4 cricket is an opportunity to play with mates of the same age, parents have the opportunity from now until Muster Day on Monday, 14 September 2015, to request team placements, if so desired. Please send an email to [email protected], if you have not already done so, with the names of the boy/s with whom your son/s would like to play and I will endeavour to meet your request when finalising teams. If a group of boys wish to play together, I need only receive one email from one parent on behalf of the group. I won’t need an email from a parent of each boy.
More than 150 boys have attended each of the first two ATC Pre-season cricket training sessions on Monday after-noons. Please bear with us whilst we work toward making the most of the available facilities and ovals in re-sponse to such a large turnout. Boys should not bring their cricket kit bags to these sessions. There is simply not enough time, nor do we have the facilities, for all boys to bat and bowl to each other during Pre-season skill sessions. These sessions will continue to operate as a series of skill and drill stations to commence/renew development across all disciplines. Batting and bowling to each other in a net and/or centre wicket environment will be left to the ATC Holiday Clinic and Term 4 team training days.
A Cricket Coaching Clinic will be held on campus exclusively for 2015 and 2016 ATC students 21-24 September 2015 inclusive to assist players prepare for the season. Please see the Flyer at the bottom of this newsletter for details. This Clinic will set the foundation for play in the Term 4 season and concentrate on building individual and team skills whilst having fun and enjoying the game. Henschell Cricket is also conducting a Cricket Coaching Clinic at Fig Tree Pocket State School 28 September-1 October 2015 inclusive. A number of ATC boys, who will be away the first week, have registered to attend this Clinic. The Clinic programs are very similar and boys unable to attend the ATC Clinic the first week are most welcome to attend the HCA Clinic the second week. The fourteen hours of coaching and practice that each of these Clinics offer is greater than the entire time available for team training sessions during Term 4 and attendance is worth considering if you are able. Bookings are essential.
The College will provide ample cricket gear for boys to use at team training sessions and matches during Term 4. There is no need to purchase cricket gear unless there is a strong desire and/or hand-me-down opportunities exist. Young boys, in particular, will grow out of bats and batting pads long before the life of these items expire. How-ever, it is strongly recommended that boys purchase their own batting gloves and protector for hygiene reasons. These can be pur-chased from any sports or cricket store or indeed, Henschell Cricket will have these items, and other stock, available at the next ATC Pre-season cricket training session and again at the Muster Day. It is Col-lege policy that each boy must wearing a helmet when batting, irre-spective of age group, and when wicketkeeping up to the stumps. No exceptions. Again, the College will provide helmets for training and matches but you may wish to purchase your own to ensure proper fitting and hygiene. Helmets can be purchased from sports and crick-et stores.
Rugby Union—Mr Dave Capra
Our ATC Rugby players had a great day out on Saturday with many of our teams recording good wins and the odd
narrow loss. With the season wrapping up this weekend for our Under 12 and 13 teams, we wish the boys the very
best of luck for a strong finish to what has been a great season for these lads. Our Under 11 teams continue on next
Saturday 12 September with all teams playing against Gregory Terrace at Tennyson.

AFL Admin and Integrity Officer—Mrs Fiona Kearney
It is hard to believe that the AFL season has come to an end for the majority of our teams. 15 weeks of competition have given
the boys the opportunity to improve their skills as an individual and enjoy being part of a team. Our final weekend of football
saw our Under 9’s 10’s and 11 ‘s showcase their skills acquired during the season. All boys should now have handed in their
Guernsey, if your son still has his ATC AFL Guernsey at home please ensure that it is returned as soon as possible so we can have
them ready for 2016 . For those of you wishing to clean out the football boots that no longer fit, ATC AFL has decided it might
be worthwhile to start a boot box. So if you have any football boots no longer needed at home please clean them first , then
hand them in to the office where we will collect them from.
Once again Thanks to our sponsors Forrester Properties, Westside BMW, Ray White Sherwood and Tynic Engineering Plastics,
your support over the season has been much appreciated .
