ATHLETIC CLEARANCE PACKET

Welcome to Ambassador Athletics!

Our interscholastic athletics program is an integral part of the educational and Christian experience at our school. The creative minds, healthy bodies, and ethical spirits that are so much a part of our school mission are lived out on the fields of play as they are in the classroom. Here at Ambassador, the ideal of the student-athlete is alive and well. The Athletic Department focused scripture is lived out by our coaches and players daily.

Everything is to be done as unto the Lord and not men. (Col. 3:23) While we are a small school, we choose to “play big” when it comes to athletics. Our commitment to sports is reflected in our widespread participation (over 80 percent of our student body participates in at least one sport each year); and level of competitive success in the Mulholland league and CIF SS play-offs. All of our student-athletes have access to top-notch facilities that include two basketball gyms, three artificial turf fields lined for multi-sport use, and three all weather soccer fields. Student-athletes are also supported by outstanding human resources: Our staff includes 4 onsite coaches, an onsite athletic director and mentorship program.

I encourage you to check us out—on the sidelines, or at ambassadorhigh.org—and see what we have to offer.

Luke Duperron AHS Athletic Director

Athletics at AHS is a privilege (not a right). Our student/athletes are expected to represent Christ (on and off campus) and consistent with the conduct requirements of the school. Student/athletes that stray from positively representing their team and their school will find themselves under disciplinary action. The student/athlete’s relationship with teammates, coaches, parents, opposing players, fans and officials should reflect a positive Christian attitude. Student/athletes must meet the minimum academic and eligibility requirements to participate in practices and/or contests.

These requirements are set by the governing boards of the CIF Southern Section and Ambassador High School. Student/athletes must meet all criteria for eligibility, including financial, physical, academic, attendance and conduct (both on and off campus). To be academically eligible for athletics at AHS, the student/athlete must maintain a 2.00 GPA (with no more than one F) on any quarterly report cards. *See Athletic Eligibility page included in this packet for more details.

This registration contract is an agreement between you and AHS that you are enrolling your child in an AHS athletic sports program and are committing to paying the athletic fee. This form AND the full payment of the athletic sports program fee (following page) must be submitted on or before the first day of practice.

Failure to sign and return this form, along with your fees, to the Athletic Office by the first day of practice will result in your child not being cleared to participate in the AHS sports program. Acceptable forms of payment include: cash, personal check, credit card or money order delivered or mailed to the AHS School Office. Due to the cost of equipment required to sustain our AHS program, payment plans are not available at this time for athletic fees. Fundraising opportunities are available for each student athlete to help with the sports program fees.

I, _____________________________ (parent or legal guardian) understand that by signing this contract, I am enrolling my child in an AHS athletic sports program for the 2017-2018 school year, in accordance with the guidelines noted in the Athletic Handbook (found on school website). ATHLETIC FEES

For the privilege of participating in athletics, students must be enrolled in a minimum of four credit classes and maintain an eligibility standard based upon academic grades. This eligibility index is computed each quarter and semester when grades are issued. The eligibility academic standard is a 2.0 G.P.A. based on all credit classes (including a maximum of one P.E. class). Receiving more than one “F” would cause immediate ineligibility. Probation will not be allowed when more than one “F” has been received in the previous quarter.

When a student is declared “on probation”, the student is placed on a one-quarter probationary status. During probation the student may still practice, play or perform. This is a grace period during which the student must improve his/her grades to a 2.0 average or higher. Probation cannot be extended to a student who has not passed four classes in the previous grading period. If the student has not been successful in achieving acceptable levels at the end of this nine week period, the student cannot play or compete. He/she then becomes “ineligible”.

One probation time period will be extended to a student during his or her high school career. There can only be one probation quarter employed within a given school year. Eligibility for fall activities is determined by the grades earned from the second semester of the previous year. Summer school grades may be averaged along with the second semester grades in order to re-compute the grade point average. A student who is on probation during the fourth quarter must raise his/her grades in order to play in the first quarter of the next school year. There cannot be any consecutive fourth and first quarters of probation. Students may not participate while under school suspension.
