MEET & GREET HARVEST DINNER DANCE
Join Nativity Parishioners along with Parishioners from St. Gabriel, St. Germaine and St. Valentine for a Meet and Greet Dinner Dance. The Dinner Dance will be held at St. Valentine’s Frawley Hall on Saturday, November 17, 2018. Doors open at 5:00 p.m.-Dinner at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $15.00 per person. For more information or to make reservations, call Rita at 412-608-2939. FREE…publicity is good whenever it is favorable! Did you read Ruth Ann Dailey’s most recent column, (last Sunday’s Post-Gazette/still online)? She remarks about the conversation she had after her pro-life presentation to the Women’s Guild/Christian Mothers at St. Valentine (and all women of the parish are always welcome to any events sponsored by any of the women’s ministries of South Hills Catholics Grouping 218). She specifically mentions our Step 2 It: Meet & Greet Harvest Dinner Dance (November 17). We don’t know if she will be attending, but we do hope that you will. It will be a marvelous opportunity to celebrate the gift that we have been given by God- each other- as we anticipate our great national day of Thanksgiving on November 22.
Love Your Neighbor As Yourself – As we hear these words proclaimed in the Gospel today, we encounter them in the context of last week’s massacre of 11 souls as they gathered to worship God. Their peaceful morning was shattered by the violence and
hatred of one person whose actions cannot be comprehended with reason. While sorrow fills our hearts because of 11 lives lost and so many more affected by this tragedy, the response in our places of worship and in our communities has not been to fight hatred with hatred, but to overcome evil with love – to love our neighbors as ourselves. In times of tragedy, the inspiration of the Spirit of God works overtime to strengthen the resilience of the human spirit so that we not only work to build stronger communities, but also to look deep within ourselves and work to root out anything that seeks to divide us from God and others. This is not only effective as a response to tragedy, but for every aspect of our lives and our relationships we seek to build up. May this call and desire to love our neighbors as ourselves, not only overcome hatred and division in the world, but also strengthen the Church as we continue our journey On Mission for The Church Alive! THIRTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME NOVEMBER 4, 2018
MEMORIAL MASS WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 7 at 7:00 p.m.
“Death is swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law, But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” —1 Corinthians 15:55-57 On Wednesday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m. our parish will celebrate the Annual Memorial Mass. This is the most poignant, as well as the most hopeful Mass of the year. In this Liturgy we remember those who have died during the past year. It is a time of loss and sadness as we remember our beloved dead, and what they meant in our lives. Of course, it is also a time of eternal hope. For Jesus tells us, “I am the Resurrection and the Life.” -John 11:25
