AT THE RESTAURANT Jhon and Mary are going out for lunch with some friends. Jhon is waiting on the sofa and smoking his pipe. Mary is getting ready. Jhon: Are you ready, Mary? It’s nearly one o’clock. Mary: I am just looking for my coat, dear. J: The tweed one? M: Yes, do you know where it is? J: It’s in the wardrobe, I think. M: Oh, yes. Here it is. At what time will Paul and Laura be at the restaurant, John? J: I don’t think so. I think it’s fairly close. M: Right, I’m ready. Let’s go. Jhon and Mary take a taxi to the restaurant. Their friends are waiting at the bar. Jhon: Hello, Paul. Hello, Laura. Sorry we’re late! Paul: Not at all. How are you both? Mary: We’re both very well, thank you, Paul. And you? P: I’m fine. Laura: I’m fine, too. How nice to see you again, Mary. M: Yes. When was the last time we met? L: I think it was last year, but I don’t remember well.

AT THE RESTAURANT

Jhon and Mary are going out for lunch with some friends. Jhon is

waiting on the sofa and smoking his pipe. Mary is getting ready.

Jhon: Are you ready, Mary? It’s nearly one o’clock.

Mary: I am just looking for my coat, dear.

J: The tweed one?

M: Yes, do you know where it is?

J: It’s in the wardrobe, I think.

M: Oh, yes. Here it is. At what time will Paul and Laura be at the

restaurant, John?

J: I don’t think so. I think it’s fairly close.

M: Right, I’m ready. Let’s go.

Jhon and Mary take a taxi to the restaurant.

Their friends are waiting at the bar.

Jhon: Hello, Paul. Hello, Laura. Sorry we’re late!

Paul: Not at all. How are you both?

Mary: We’re both very well, thank you, Paul. And you?

P: I’m fine.

Laura: I’m fine, too. How nice to see you again, Mary.

M: Yes. When was the last time we met?

L: I think it was last year, but I don’t remember well.

P: Why don’t we all have a drink? What will you have, Mary?

M: A gin and tonic, please, Paul.

P: What about you, Jhon?

J: I’ll have a whisky and soda.

Paul orders the drinks and Mary chats whit Laura. They have the

drinks at the bar and then go and sit down at the table.

M: Let’s have a look at the menu.

P: There’s roast beef and grilled salmon.

M: I prefer fish. I’ll try the salmon.

J: I’ll have roast beef

P: What about you, Laura?

L: I’d like something light. What are the sandwiches like?

P: Let’s ask the waiter… Paul calls the waiter. Excuse me!

Waiter: Yes, sir. Are you ready to order?

P: Almost. What sandwiches do you have?

W: Chicken, tuna and ham.

L: I’ll have a ham sandwich whit mustard please.

P: We’ll also have a roast beef, and two salmons.

W: And to drink, sir?

P: What kind of wine do you prefer, Jhon, red or white?

J: Red I think, to go whit the beef.

P: A good Burgundy, please.

W: Yes, sir… The waiter leaves.

M: I’m really hungry. I hope the food doesn’t take too long!
