Front CENTRE DECEMBER 2016- NEWS FROM THE CENTRE ART CLASSES AT THE CENTRE MAGIC MUD (kids) Wednesdays: 3:30 - 5:00pm February 1 - March 8, 2017 Dive into the world of clay, and discover the magic! Can you believe that a soft lump of clay can become a frog, a cup, or a castle? With your imagination, it can become anything! Come explore the magic of clay and see it transform into a multitude of wonderful things. Children will learn the basic principles of working with clay and build a number of projects to bring home. Suitable for beginners and children with previous clay experience. Cost: $115 HANDBUILDING 3 - LOOKING FOR SPRING! (adult) Wednesdays: 6:00 - 8:30pm February 1 - March 1, 2017 (No class February 22) A new year and the opportunity to create is in the air! Registration for each class includes one free drop-in for the Clay Open Studio on Monday nights or Friday mornings. What came first – the gardener or the ceramist? Gardening and making dishware seem to go hand in hand. Embrace the New Year and make vessels to grow herbs, garden ornaments, and even a bird feeder! Techniques covered include: soft and leather hard slab construction and using the extruder for embellishment. Cost: $145 ACRYLIC LANDSCAPES (adult) Thursdays: 10:00am - 12:00pm February 2 - March 9, 2017 Capture the beauty of the Northwest landscapes in acrylics. This intermediate class in acyclic painting takes skills and techniques and applies them to a variety of landscape vistas. Explore the world of colour and develop your technique. Supplies and requirements: A supply list will be provided for students. Cost: $145 WILD ACRYLICS (adult) Thursdays: 1:00 - 3:00pm February 2 - March 9, 2017 Take your favourite photos of wildlife and give them a try in acrylic! The versatility of acrylics makes them a great medium for the subject of birds and animals in the wild. Explore the world of colour and further develop techniques learned previously. Supplies and requirements: Students will be contacted regarding a supply list. Cost: $145 WHEEL A LA CARTE 1 - USE THE FORCE (adult) Thursdays: 6:00 - 9:00pm February 2 - March 2, 2017 Wheel a la Carte classes are designed to move through the process of wheel throwing from centering to glaze firing. Beginners are recommended to sign up for session 1 prior to registering for other wheel classes. Registration for each class includes one free drop-in for the Clay Open Studio on Monday nights or Friday mornings. A four week introductory course on the art of handling clay on the pottery wheel. This class will offer multiple approaches to centering and is ideal for the beginner or intermediate artist. Cost: $155 Based on the animated 1989 Disney film, e Little Mermaid the musical follows Ariel, an intelligent and strong willed young mermaid who longs to leave her ocean home in search of her destiny in the world above. Build on a variety of techniques such as applying washes, wet on wet techniques, pouring, glazing, and masking. The world of colour will also be explored. Students should have completed the Introduction to Watercolour Class or have some knowledge of watercolour techniques. Supplies and requirements: Students will be contacted regarding a supply list.
