CASE STUDYAt The Ave #PepperGoesToSchool
Headquartered in Venice, CA, The Ave is a custom print apparel shop that lets shoppers bring their imagination and fashion sense to life by providing a space to create custom designed Chucks, Vans, shirts, and more. In 2016, The Ave expanded to their second location on the USC Campus – perfect for college kids to express their school spirit in their own way.
The Challenge? The Ave is tucked away on the 3rd floor of the USC Bookstore, making it difficult to create organic foot traffic to the new store.
In order to attract new customers and raise their profile, The Ave looked for a fresh way to integrate new and innovative technology that would spark interest and drive sales.
The Story
A Fresh Face at USC
Pepper is the perfect solution for retail businesses seeking to increase conversions and store traffic by creating real and unique engagement with a brand. Teaming up with SoftBank Robotics America, The Ave saw an opportunity to spark interest in their new store with a Pop Up activation using Pepper’s one-of-a-kind abilities to increase outlet awareness, attract new shoppers, explain aspects of the store, and generate sales.
The Opportunity
Pepper GoesTo School
Kicking off on October 18th, Pepper’s three-day activation instantly drew crowds to meet Pepper and discover what makes The Ave so distinct. Customers were greeted by Pepper and then were introduced to The Ave through dedicated applications built for Pepper for this particular experience. Shoppers learned about its patented printing process, shopped the store’s top collections, created and purchased custom gear, and discovered the history of The Ave. These unparalleled, all-in-one customer interactions are what makes a retail Pepper experience so iconic.
The Ave also hosted an open house where Product Manager Nicholas Beucher spoke with students about the uniqueness of Pepper as a platform, and what it means for the future of business.

The Result
Pepper Makes The DifferenceWhen Pepper joined the team at The Ave, the results were immediate and spectacular. With a drastic increase in foot traffic and sales, The Ave experienced a new level of engagement and interest in the brand like never before. It’s clear that Pepper has a massive influence on consumers, and the social media impact was significant with USC Bookstores channels seeing a gigantic lift throughout the event.
These results are a clear indicator that Pepper increases shopper engagement, drives foot traffic to hard to reach areas and gives consumers a reason to stay in the store longer. This is what happens when Pepper meets retail, no matter the size or location of your business.
