AsThoughtarchitecture from concept to built form

Our main goal is to describe the design process, the architectural solutions and the detailing choices of a built work in a chronological order. The dream – that is also the ambition – is to tune at the best the structure of this on-line manual and to spread around its template in order to amplify the power of collecting and publishing in a such huge way that in a few years we could arrive at the largest open source and most browsed utility for architectural students not only in Europe.

History of Commission: In 2003 Architect Castelletti was commissioned by the Consortium of Lake Park Segrino

who had obtained a loan of around regional 350.000 € to achieve a Eupilio e bathhouse provided

for by the plan. Following a major influx of people wanted to increase the functions support to

the Lido, with bath turkish and sauna, changing rooms and toilets, and it was necessary enhance

the activities accomodation by inserting a small bar and resturant.

Project description

7Bathing Pavilion-Marco Castelletti

The idea of this project was born from the inspiration came from the client project .He wanted it to be

low enough as possible from the view sight because the site was very sensitive in terms of landscape.

it came up with the idea of having structure completely underground , which would integrate as much

as possible with nature and landscape and also connecting with cycle track that runs around a lake.

A first epithesis was to diverted the pedestrian path to go down to the beach which is more lower than

the street for who might have to come down to the front of pavilion.

The project is designed in L shape lead to two ramps to arrived to the entrance from the cycle track. The

entrance and junction of two wings is indicated by a tiny tower which represents the historical tower of

the regions in which the administration is over the ticket face. Walked past the entrance to the beach the

pavilion is clearly visible, poised on the ground as a “pile-work”, characterized by a linear structure, made

by piles, beams and wooden bands and joined to the lake through footway in wood.

At the two right-angled used respectively as changing rooms and refreshing point and surrounded by

arcades. On the lobby of the entrance, opened to the lake on the arcade between two closed volumes,

there is the ticket office. The part along the road contains the changing rooms, a turkish bath, the nursery

and a stocking room while the other part that views directly to the lake contains the bar and restrooms,

staff rooms, thermal central and at the first floor a little managing office. The intervention is completed by

inserting of wooden quays that, detached from arcades, join together lake and pavilion and bound, fol-

lowing a cartesian order, the swimming area opened to the lake to the sheltered area of the internal basin

used for docking of rowing boats. The whole constuction, excluding the wall to the road and foundations,

has been studied and realized with a wooden structure produced in establisment and assembled dry

while setting up.
