QUEEN MONICA GARDINA
11 .. Homecoming is an exciting time of year . Being elected queen makes it a special thrill for me. Homecoming includes a number of different people whom I would like to acknowledge:
11 To the faculty who have given me more than words in a book. You have shown me Assumption is more than just people, but a united family who shares in victory as well as defeat. Through this I have found the values of a Catholic Education.
11 To all the alumni- thank you for the traditions you have built and passed on to us.
11 To the students- it is you who keep the tradition and excitement of Homecoming alive. It is you who I represent as queen.
"To my parents who have given me the opportunity to grow in the very best way here at Assumption.
"Last but not least, to the senior class. We've been through a lot together and now the big year has come. I am proud to say I am a member of the class of "79". I wouldn't give anything to change these last four years I've had here at Assumption . Thank you for making my senior year very, very special.
"There is one special senior I'd like to thank and that is my sister Mlchelle. It is often hard to be a twin and I know this is one of them. Thank you Michelle; for all you have given me. 11

Trained and inspired leadership Is needed in the troubled world of today. We live in uncertainty and fear. The times call for thinking and straight thinking -one of the goals of true education. Unfortunately, the world so clamors for action that men and women devote little time to thinking. Many believe in secondhand thinking. They find It easier to ascertain and adopt the thoughts of others than to think for themselves.

Brewed in a traditional Old World way called Kraeusening
From the very first day our brewery was opened . Heileman s Old Style has been fully , thats fully kraeusened naturally carbonated , in the tradIt1onal Old World way Kraeusening Is the most natural way to brew beer and the most expensive . Most expensive because
raeusening ta es more time A pure-brewing , double-brewing art that Old Style InsIsts on using to this very day
When you brew a beer once you ·ve got a good beer . but
when you brew a beer twice you ·ve got a great. light beer and that In essence Is what kraeusening is all about
Sure we could use short cuts but we don t , and we won t Because at Old Style we don t aim to make the most beer , only the best
Thats why Old Style has been fully , thats fully kraeusened , naturally carbonated since 1853, Try Old Style
Taste the diff ere nee Kraeusening makes.

The Spaghetti Supper was really fun! Rain and cold didn't halt the 1700+ people whom the seniors fed and entertained.
Pictured on the left are Student Co-Chairmen Mike Matthys and Michelle Gau with Faculty Co-Chairmen Mrs. Joan DeVries and Fr. Phllllps.
The "Chicago" atmosphere and the "Roaring 20's'' decorations were added touches. But nothing could top the "SAUCY SENIORS and their SPAGHETTI SUPREME".

Faith is the only answer.
Tom Sunderbruch
John O'Donnell
Two young cousins, 15 year old Tom Sunderbruch, Jr ., and 14 year old John O'Donnell, Jr ., were fun-loving boys . With their uncle , Norman Ash, Tommy and John left on a late June fishing vacation. Only twenty minutes from home an accident claimed their lives .
"In the face of a tragedy such as this, we naturally are concerned with the question of why does something llke this happen? And the only answer is in our faith. " Father Francis Hendrickson, pastor of St. Mary 's, faculty Instructor in religion at Assumption and friend of all three made his point In the Mass for the Resurrection. In his homily Father continued to say because of our human nature "that answer Is difficult to live with. Nevertheless, we live In an Imperfect world and have to put up with imperfections."
Father Hendrickson pointed out that John 's beautiful letter asking to be Confirmed in his faith was simple, warm, direct yet personal. John knew what he wanted and was ready for the future. Assumption was to be his first challenge and he eagerly longed to be a freshman - a "real" Knight. Already he knew the practice fields and PE areas well and wore Assumption's red and white with pride .
We all saw Tommy 's faith in action. Whether he was preparing for a class , attending Mass in the chapel or "tajing down and pinning " his opponent on the wrestling mat. Tommy's faith in God and his faith in himself to achieve with God 's help was evident. He was an example, a fine example , of our Catholic faith in action . P.H.

When we speak of Assumption, we include not only brick and mortar but the heart of the school itself, her people. Teachers and friends, administration and coaches alike have had, and will continue to have a profound effect on our lives. Sometimes in ways so subtle we aren't aware of It, and at other times with a great awareness .
Our experiences with the people at Assumption will be a large part of the basic foundation on which we build our lives. We are a composite of our family experiences and those we have encountered here at Assumption.
One of my best experiences in my four years at Assumption has been the participation in yearbook. This yearbook is the product of 1 year's long, hard work . It started last spring with a workshop at St. Ambrose and was being formed all during the summer months. In the fall, while others were busy catching up with friends about their summer, the yearbook staff was busy making preparations for all the coming events that would take place during the school year. Then, as clubs were organized, activities were taking place, and games were being played the pages of this book were being drawn up. Nobody knows just how much work goes Into each page, until they have attempted It themselves. There are a number of people who have helped this book come alive and deserve a thank-you. Among the many: The Parents Club- for their financial support. Sr . Marcia Costello- for her advice and lead-
ership. Mark Belli- for his professional photography. AH S teachers- for all their hall passes and
their understanding when we didn't have hall passes.
The Yearbook Staff- for their hard work and dedication.
