Novocaine celebrates 85 years In 1905, German chemist Dr. Albert Einhorn discovered an anesthetic which revolutionized pain control in both dentistry and medicine - - Procaine, or, as it is more commonly known, Novo- caine. This synthetic anesthetic replaced the widely used but highly addictive, cocaine. While the anesthetic action of Novocaine is similar to that of cocaine, it is far less toxic. Harris awarded Legion of Merit

In ceremonies held at Fort McPher- son, Georgia, Col. William E. Harris of Atlanta recently received the Legion of Merit for Outstanding Meritorious Service upon his retire- ment from the US Army Reserves. Col. Harris was commander of the 3299th USA Dental Service Detach- ment, the largest dental unit in the US Army. His military service spans over 42 years and includes service in the US Navy and Air Force.
