The Associate of Science degree in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling isdesigned to prepare students academically for entrance into upper divisioncourses to pursue a Bachelor’s degree as well as for certification as alcoholand drug abuse counselors. This program meets the academic requirementsof The California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors(CAADAC), a certification body recognized by the State of California. Thisprogram may not meet the requirements for certification in other states. Degree Requirements

To receive the degree, students must complete at least 90 quarter units, 31.5of which must be taken in residence at National University and complete a255 hour practicum experience working with clients at an approvedpracticum site. Students are urged to meet English requirements as early aspossible in their college career to avoid serious difficulties in other coursework. Refer to the section on undergraduate admission requirements forspecific information regarding admission and evaluation.

The Certificate in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling is designed to meetstate requirements for certification of alcohol and drug abuse counselors.This program meets the educational requirements of The CaliforniaAssociation of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC), acertification body recognized by the State of California. Degree Requirements

To receive the certificate, students must complete at least 45 quarter units,31.5 of which must be taken in residence at National University andcomplete a 255 hour practicum experience working with clients at anapproved practicum site. Refer to the section on undergraduate admissionrequirements for specific information regarding application, placementevaluation and matriculation.

Upon application students must sign the ADC Student Agreement beforebeginning their coursework. Students must obtain malpractice insuranceprior to beginning their work with clients. Students attend live practicumclasses one Saturday a month during the seven month clinical practicum at aNational University campus. Students must attend live internet classsessions in some of the below classes. Students will have their choice ofattending either one evening a week or on Saturday. Students must have aheadset with a microphone that plugs into the USB port on the computer.
