Genre: Drama
● Our chosen genre is Drama.
● Drama films are hard hitting as they focus on key aspects of life.
● At the end, they usually teach the audience a lesson by its strong moral message.
Inspirational films (1): 8 Mile
Film name: 8 Mile
● This film is inspirational as it deals with aspects of life.
Character : Jimmy is the main character, he
lives in a rundown trailer with his
mom and daughter.
He tends to blame other people for
his misfortune until he realises that
he has the control over all his
situations.
This than leads to him improving
himself inorder to take care of his
family.
Cont.Lighting is affective as half of his face is alienated by low key lighting.
Effective as it gives a serious tone as his facial expression is neutral.
Jimmy and his friends meet their rivals and get into a fight.
Cheddar (friend of Jimmy), pulls out a gun and threatens to shoot.
Shows the closeness he has with his daughter.
Gesture shows that he promises her something.
Costume (hoodie and hat) makes him look like a youth.
Vibrant clothing makes the child seem innocent.
Dressed in dark clothes, insinuating that he has a dark character to him.
Inspirational film (2) : Titanic
Shows she is of high class because she is wearing elegant and classy clothing.
Rose meets Jack and falls in love with him.
Bright and warm colours in this scene depict the mood.
it also represents warmth between two characters and fun.

Chosen Idea time line
Girl is looking at her surroundings.
She is walking home.
Gets into the front door and see’s empty bottles
of alcohol.
She confronts her mother about the mess and her
alcoholism.
Daughter and mother gets into a fight.
Mother viciously attacks daughter (physical
abuse).
Girl lies on the floor (canted shot). Mother says, “I’m so sorry!”
Silently, tears start to stream from the daughters face.
The Next day… The girl is at school with group of
friends. She feels isolated even when she is
surrounded by people.
End of opening sequence.

Idea 1
● Establishing the characters as it shows that the
main character doesn’t get along with her
mother
● It also introduces the fact that her mother has
an alcoholic problem.

Idea 1 has a non-linear narrative structure as it
starts off at a dis-equilibrium and not at an
equilibrium to show normality.
