Interim Assessments

• Interim Assessments evaluate a class on the scope and sequence as standards are taught.

• Interim assessments are not tied to individual grades.

• The Interim Bank currently is in development and will be operational for the 2014-2015 school year.

Pilot Test• 124 schools in Idaho administered the Pilot Test in

Spring 2013. • Pilots were given in different school sizes, grade levels

and regions. – For example: 493 tests at Canyon Ridge High School in

Twin Falls to 6 tests completed in Bliss.

• SBAC is conducting a Pilot Test Data Review this fall. • Reviewers will evaluate items and make

recommendations to “accept as is,” “revise and re-field test,” or “reject” with rationale. Idaho educators are participating in this process.

Practice Test

• Practice Tests and Scoring Guides are now available for each subject area and all grade levels.

• Practice Tests can be used for the following: – Lesson plans – Professional development – Communication efforts with parents

Access the Practice Tests online at: https://sbacpt.tds.airast.org/student/

Field Test

• Our Goal: Give Idaho students the opportunity to experience a new test in Spring 2014.

• Students in grades 3-11 will take the field test.– 20% will take the Smarter Balanced Field Test– 80% will take either the Smarter Balanced Field

Test or Smarter Balanced items through DRC.• Testing window has not been set but will not be

longer than the current ISAT testing window.

Page 13: ASSESSMENT & ACCOUNTABILITY Luci Willits Chief of Staff

What the Test Looks Like• Math: 40-50 random items (10 items scored for states)• ELA: 40-50 random items (10 items scores for states)

• 4 Kinds of Test Questions:1. Multiple Choice2. Constructed Response3. Technology Enhanced4. Performance Tasks

Page 14: ASSESSMENT & ACCOUNTABILITY Luci Willits Chief of Staff

How Long the Test Will Take

Times are estimates of test length for most students. Smarter Balanced assessments are designed as untimed tests; some students may need and should be afforded more time than shown in this table.

Page 15: ASSESSMENT & ACCOUNTABILITY Luci Willits Chief of Staff

This Is a Secure Test• Adults are not allowed to sit and view items. That

would be a violation of state test security policy.

• Items would be void and teacher would be reported to the Professional Standards Commission.

Science ISAT Still in Place

• Idaho is not currently participating in “Next Generation Science Standards.”

• Grades 5, 7, and 10 will continue to take the Science ISAT based on current science standards.

• The Department will be recruiting schools soon for a field test of Science End-of-Course exams.

• No Science graduation test will be replaced with EOC through rulemaking.

Idaho’s Accountability Plan

Idaho’s Plan

• Star Ratings and Accountability calculated for the 2012-2013 school year will remain in effect for the 2013-2014 school year.

• Star Ratings and Accountability will be recalculated in 2014-2015 when the new Smarter Balanced assessment is first administered for accountability purposes.

Page 22: ASSESSMENT & ACCOUNTABILITY Luci Willits Chief of Staff

Idaho’s Plan• Idaho will amend its ESEA Waiver to reflect

changes to its Accountability Plan.

• This requires approval from the Idaho State Board of Education and U.S. Department of Education.

• While the U.S. Department of Education has not released its format for waiver amendments, the state is moving forward.
