5.1 EMERGENCY STOP switch
The EMERGENCY STOP switch is wired in two circuits. The contacts are designed as normally closed.
The red-yellow EMERGENCY STOP on the CDSA teach pendant fulfils the require- ments of standard EN 418. Its effectiveness must be developed on the basis of the risk judgement for the machine as a stop of category 0 or of category 1 (see EN 60204-1 chapter 9.2.5.4.2). The circuitry of the forced opening switching contacts must fulfil the safety category (as per EN 954-1) which has been specified on the basis of the risk analysis (as per EN 1050) of the machine.
1 EMERGENCY STOP switch
Fig. 5.1: EMERGENCY STOP switch
Warning
Non-functioning emergency stop devices can have fatal consequences. Red-yellow marked EMERGENCY STOP switches must be effective at all times and in all operating modes of a machine or system.
Warning
Teach pendants with a red and yellow EMERGENCY STOP switch, which are not connected to a machine, must be kept out of sight so that they cannot be confused with functioning devices in an emer-gency case.
Please note
After any severe shock to the device (e.g. due to dropping), you must check the EMERGENCY STOP switch to make sure that it still functions.

5. Operating elements of the teach pendant
Festo GDCP-CDSA-SY-EN 0805NH 25
Please note
You must also check the EMERGENCY STOP function (every 6 months) by actuating the EMERGENCY STOP switch and observing whether the machine switches off.
5.1.1 Setting up the permission button
The CDSA teach pendant has two permission buttons which are arranged one on each side of the device. This enables operation with the left hand as well as with the right hand. The permission buttons are switched parallel and have an equal effect on the common safety circuits.
Jogging and manual movement with the teach pendant are only possible when the
permission button is actuated. Only one button needs to be actuated here.
The permission button consists of a three-stage operating element and separate evaluation electronics. An important feature is the continuous two-circuit design, from the actuating elements to the connecting terminals. The evaluation circuits are implemented in various ways. Due to the electronic design of the switching contacts their service life is independent of the load up to their rated values (ohmic, inductive and capacitive).
The permission buttons – switching elements are designed with protection against incorrect polarity.
The outputs of both circuits are protected against short circuit and overload.
1 Permission button
Fig. 5.2: Permission button
Method of operation
The actuating element consists of two symmetrically arranged rocker buttons, the position of which is ascertained by electric sensors and passed onto the evaluation electronics.

Switch position Function Permission button Switch contact
1 Zero position not actuated off (opened)
2 Permission is actuated on (closed)
3 Panic is pressed off (opened)
Tab. 5.1: Switching positions of the permission button
Please note
When the actuating elements are pressed in the panic position, the permission position will be bypassed when the elements are released again.
Please note
Permission buttons are always designed with 2-circuitson the CDSA teach pendant.
Safety category 3 as per EN 954-1:1996 can be fulfilled by implementation of the permission device with 2 circuits.
Safety category 3 means that 1 error must not lead to loss of safety and whenever carried
out correctly the individual error must be recognized.
Monitoring the simultaneity is required because otherwise there could be an accumula- tion of errrors, which would consequently lead to loss of safety.
Example:
If one channel of the permission device gives permission due to an error, and the second channel also gives permission due to an error after an undefined period, it is no longer possible for the permission button to switch off.
Standard EN 60204-1:1997 specifies that the permission device must be connected to a stop of category 0 or 1, i.e. that the energy must be switched off.

Fig. 5.3: Circuitry of the permission button on the PlugIn housing
5. Operating elements of the teach pendant
28 Festo GDCP-CDSA-SY-EN 0805NH
Foreseeable misuse of the permission button
The non-permitted fixing of the permission button in the permission position with aids is regarded as a foreseeable misuse. This foreseeable misuse must be limited. The following measures which cause the machine to come to a stand in manual operation are recommended:
Scanning the permission button when the machine/system is switched on and when the operating mode is changed from automatic to manual (manual operation) (permission button must not be in the permission position).
The permission button must be released within a defined period and brought into the permission position again. The length of the period must be selected according to activity demands.
5.2 Touch-sensitive keypad
Keypad assignment
The keypad is divided into 2 function groups:
1 Buttons for the
jogging mode

5.4 Display
The controller is equipped with a 6.5“ TFT colour LC display.
The service life of the background lighting can be considerably lengthened by the actuation of a screen saver via the system control. The times for the background lighting
can be modified in the setup menu. The necessary procedure is described in the documentation GDCP-CDSA-SW.
If the touch screen is not operated with the finger, we recommend the use of a touch pin (supplied with the device). Commercially available touch pins are also suitable.
When supplied the touch screen of the teach pendant is pre-calibrated, so that calibration is no longer necessary.
If new calibration should be necessary, this can take place via the "Setup menu". The necessary procedure is described in the documentation GDCP-CDSA-SW.
Please note
The touch screen should preferably be operated with the touch pin.
Please note
Sharp objects will damage the touch screen.

6. Commissioning
Festo GDCP-CDSA-SY-EN 0805NH 31
6. Commissioning Before commissioning you must insert the cables and connect the power supply.
1. Insert the plug of the NESC connecting cable into the socket of the CAMI-C PlugIn housing and tighten the hat nut of the plug.
2. If a crossover cable is used, you must insert this with its two plugs into the Ethernet socket of the PlugIn housing and the multi-axis controller CMXR.
3. Connecting the power supply Observe here either the connection diagram in Fig. 4.2 or Tab. 4.3.
4. Further information on commissioning can be found in the documentation GDCP-CDSA-SW.
6.1 Concluding operation
If the teach pendant is disconnected, the signals for EMERGENCY STOP will be opened and EMERGENCY STOP will be triggered. In order to bridge the signals you must insert the bridge plug. This will bridge the EMERGENCY STOP signal internally.
Warning
DANGER!
Disconnected teach pendants must be moved away, because the EMERGENCYY STOP button of the teach pendant has no effect.
6.1.1 Disconnecting the teach pendant
If the CMXR is controlled by an external controller, the teach pendant in automatic mode is not necessary. It can therefore be disconnected at the PlugIn box.
Please note
Before disconnecting the teach pendant you must stop the move-ment of the kinematics in order to prevent unnecessary stops via the EMERGENCY STOP situation.
Disconnecting the teach pendant results in an EMERGENCY STOP situation, as these contacts are opened. In order to operate the system when the controller is disconnected,
there is a bridge plug in which the two-channel EMERGENCY STOP signals can be bridged. When the bridge plug is inserted the EMERGENCY STOP status can be quitted and the work continued.
Caution
With a disconnected teach pendant the EMERGENCY STOP switch is no longer active. Controllers with a non-active EMERGENCY STOP switch must therefore be removed.
