NEWSLETTER Hello Everyone, It’s been a very exciting Fall for Charleston ASSC events. In September our movie night drew a crowd of both old and new members. A recap of this event, including photos can be found on page 2. We hope to hold another movie night sometime in the future. Is there any archaeology themed movie you’d like to see? It was a very successful week of excavation and the park service is very appreciative, as they would never have been able to complete this much needed work on their own. Another week long volunteer dig at Hampton is being scheduled for early March, so keep your calendars open. Also, we are reaching the end of another year and officer elections will be happening soon. According to our constitution officers serve one term and new officers are elected at the end of each calendar year. The floor is now open for nominations. Hello Everyone,

It’s been a very exciting Fall for Charleston ASSC events. In September our

movie night drew a crowd of both old and new members. A recap of this event,

including photos can be found on page 2. We hope to hold another movie night

sometime in the future. Is there any archaeology themed movie you’d like to see?

South Carolina State Park archaeologists, David Jones and I would like to

thank all members who helped out the with Hampton Plantation Volunteer Dig in

November. It was a very successful week of excavation and the park service is very

appreciative, as they would never have been able to complete this much needed work

on their own. Another week long volunteer dig at Hampton is being scheduled for

early March, so keep your calendars open.

Also, we are reaching the end of another year and officer elections will be

happening soon. According to our constitution officers serve one term and new

officers are elected at the end of each calendar year. The floor is now open for

nominations. Please send your nominations to [email protected].

Deadline for nominations is December 31st 2011, 11:59 EST. We will only accept

Excavating Social Strata: Lifeways and Contributions of Traditionally

Marginalized Groups

History is often told from the perspective of those in power. An important role of archae-ology is its potential to uncover the footprints left by the rest of the society. To this end, this year’s theme strives to give voice to those whose stories have been excluded or mis-represented, such as women, children, immigrants, servants, and the enslaved. Eight papers will be given by both professional archaeologists and students on topics fitting this theme. A full program will be announced in January.

When: Saturday, February 18, 2012 9am-5pm

Where: Founders Hall, Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site

Admission: $10
