• Take out your bell work and copy today’s FLT’s:– I can discuss money and convince others to lend it to

me using ASL only– I can engage in signed conversations– I can make complaints & requests in ASL

• When finished with Bell Work, practice all unit 8 and unit 9 vocab in your textbook.

Bell Work Verb Types

• Plain Verbs- require the signer to specify the subject and the object.– Ex: run, take-care, [grow up], live

• Inflecting Verbs (Directionality)- allows the signer to indicate the subject and object by changing the direction of movement of the sign.– Ex: help, give, show, tell, ask

• Spatial Verbs-the signer changes the direction of movement of the sign to indicate location; must specify the object and subject.– Ex: move

Money Numbers

• Money numbers have their own distinctive form.• Use the sign CENT and the number. Some

signers may fingerspell CENT• The form for “1 dollar” is similar to the ordinal

number “first” but with a bigger twist of the wrist & a bigger arc than the ordinal number

• You may have to rely on context to distinguish between “first” and “1 dollar”

Copy the following story and then gloss it with a partner:

• Yesterday I went to school with no money. When lunch time came, I was hungry. I looked around and saw everyone eating and was sad. Then I asked my friend if I could borrow $1. My friend said yes. I went to the cafeteria to buy a sandwich. The cafeteria worker told me a sandwich was $2. I looked in my pocket and found 10 cents, but that wasn’t enough. I went back to my friend and asked to borrow 90 cents. I returned to the cafeteria and gave the worker $2 and received a sandwich. Finally, I ate.
