WHAT’S NEW AT CAPACITY ASIA 2019?

SPOTLIGHT ON CHINA: A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITYEarlier this year, BT became the first non-Chinese telecoms firm to be granted a nationwide operating license in China. China’s Ministry of Commerce intends to broaden market access, to allow other international firms to join the club, from carrier and content partnerships to SD-WAN joint ventures.

With a population of 1.4 billion people, Internet users in excess of 800 million and 3 incumbent carriers well-established in the market and leading the race for 5G deployment, global communications providers will have a challenge ahead, but China represents a huge opportunity, as yet relatively untapped by international players.

SPEED NETWORKING This structured networking session is designed for first-time attendees and those wishing to procure or provide network services and connectivity solutions. It is a good way to quickly introduce yourself and establish the right connections at an 850+ attendee event.

Participants will have 1-2-1 meetings at tables for 5 minutes, after which an announcement will be made for everyone to move on to the next table.

POWER 100 ASIA INVESTMENT FORUM & LUNCHEON(BY INVITATION ONLY)Uniting members of Capacity’s Power 100 list with regional leaders from carrier, cloud and content communities, this forum brings together the most influential and inspiring people within telecommunications in APAC for an intimate networking experience.

Taking place under Chatham House Rules, invitees will enjoy stimulating closed-door discussions on the future of the industry over lunch and drinks.

AGENDA

DAY ONE - TUESDAY 3 DECEMBER 2019

ASSOCIATED EVENT: MONDAY 2 DECEMBER 2019

8:00AM REGISTRATION & NETWORKING BREAKFAST

8:50AM WELCOME TO CAPACITY ASIA

8.55AM KEYNOTE PRESENTATION: ASIA - LEADING INNOVATION IN COMMUNICATIONS

9:05AM KEYNOTE PRESENTATION: CARRIER & CONTENT COLLABORATION CASE STUDY

9:25AM KEYNOTE PRESENTATION: CONNECTION TO THE MOTHER SHIP - NETWORK VIRTUALISATION & INTEGRATION IN THE EDGE ERA In an ever-increasingly competitive market where seeking alternative sources of revenue is essential, wholesale carriers are revolutionising their business models and repositioning themselves as connectivity providers or digital service providers. Increasingly, OTTs are also seeing themselves as infrastructure providers. Funding and M&A both have an important role to play in facilitating the process of evolution and embracing new services. • What are carriers and telcos doing to adapt their business models? • What role can partnerships play in easing the transition and ensuring the continued relevance of established telecoms providers? • Is investment a viable option for diversifying services?

10:45AM COFFEE & NETWORKING BREAK

11:20AM PANEL DISCUSSION: NETWORK UPGRADES – REQUIREMENTS & OPPORTUNITIES TO ENSURE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ROBUST, AGILE DIGITAL INFRASTRUCTURE Upgrading networks and automating processes is a necessary, but Capex-intensive task and needs to cater to current and future service requirements. Therefore, it is important to ensure that investment is focussed on the most important areas and that stakeholders consult each other on how to upgrade digital infrastructure in an efficient, future-proof manner which can adapt to support evolving demands. Customer Requirements • What are the current demands from international OTT content providers into local access networks? Who do they need to collaborate with to ensure local connectivity? • What key assets do OTTs consider more valuable than network connectivity? • What connectivity services drive value for cloud service providers? Connectivity Concerns • How can carriers leverage their core wholesale carrier capabilities through network expertise, geographic coverage and capacity to upscale their content offering? • How can carriers be more innovative about tailored solutions and customising services to the client’s requirements? • How do carriers maintain profit margins whilst providing a more bespoke service? • What network investment is being implemented to improve latency and quality of service?

12:10PM PANEL DISCUSSION: OPTIMISING CONNECTIVITY FOR MAJOR SPORTING EVENTS AND E-SPORTS This year Japan has hosted the Rugby World Cup and next year the Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held in Tokyo. Provision of mobile connectivity, public WiFi and roaming options will be of significant consideration to showcase the country as one of the foremost technologically advanced markets in the world, and to make the experience of foreign visitors as welcoming as possible. Furthermore, e-sports is now recognised as an official sport at the Asian Games and attracts many consumers to livestream an event, consuming a vast amount of bandwidth. • What provisions are being made to provide international standard roaming agreements and data to tourists? • Are there workarounds for legislation which dictates that people must be resident in Japan to access voice packages, as well as data-only? • How can networks prepare for a surge in capacity requirements when a game is live? • What are the capacity requirements for live streaming during an event and how can operators partner with venues to prepare for this level of demand?

1:00PM NETWORKING LUNCH sponsored by

2:30PM PANEL DISCUSSION: STATUS UPDATE ON 5G DEPLOYMENTS The pioneers of commercial 5G are predominantly in Asia and China is leading the charge. Different countries have differing regulations, standards and extent of existing network infrastructure, which can have a significant impact on how easy, economical and efficient 5G deployment is to achieve. Use Cases • What are the services that will drive demand for 5G networks? • Openwave have suggested that cloud gaming could generate 50% of 5G data traffic by 2022. How are carriers working with gaming providers to optimise the experience for gamers? • What other use cases and beneficiaries of 5G are out there and how can carriers tailor their offerings to support these industries? Risks & Requirements: • What will be the impact of 5G on costs for consumers and stakeholders? • Is there an opportunity to reduce cost through non-standalone 5G networks? • What standards have been put in place and are they sufficient, given that 5G networks are not yet ubiquitous? • How will operators neutralise the risk that previous investments in technology will be made redundant by the existence of 5G networks? • Will WiFi networks still be necessary? • How can we develop strategies to mitigate security concerns about 5G networks? • How can we future-proof the networks being built today for use cases that don’t yet exist? • How are geo-political circumstances potentially impeding the progress of technological advancement in 5G deployment?

3:15PM COFFEE & NETWORKING BREAK

3:00PM SPEED NETWORKING SESSION – NETWORK SERVICES This structured networking session is designed for first-time attendees and those wishing to procure or provide network services and connectivity solutions. It is a good way to quickly introduce yourself to other attendees at an 850+ attendee event. Participants will have 1-2-1 meetings at tables for 5 minutes, after which an announcement will be made for everyone to move on to the next table. The session will run for 1 ½ hours, so attendees should be able to meet with at least 18 potential partners

4:00PM UPDATE FROM THE GLF

4:30PM PANEL DISCUSSION: APPLYING BLOCKCHAIN TO CONTENT PROVISION & COMMUNICATIONS SERVICES Blockchain has the potential to revolutionise business operations in the content, carrier and cloud landscape. The benefits are universal: a shared online database network, improved cyber security, integrated billing for carriers and in-app purchases, liberty to re-invent business models and importantly, reduced operating costs. The networked nature of blockchain means that the technology is inherently impervious to hackers who can only reach a single node, so any attack will not affect the functionality of a whole network. However, blockchain requires huge computing power, with current algorithms consuming up to 215 kWh per transaction. • What disruptive initiatives are getting underway to utilise blockchain to propel the industry forwards? • What can be done to improve interoperability between stakeholders? • How can blockchain and smart contracts play a role in the content distribution landscape? • How might existing network infrastructure play a role in reducing resource consumption and improving efficiency? • How can blockchain technologies support a growing digital ecosystem in emerging economies in South-East Asia?

8:30AM REGISTRATION & NETWORKING BREAKFAST

9:30AM PRESENTATION: SURGE IN SATELLITE DEMAND - THE OUTLOOK FOR HIGH THROUGHPUT SATELLITE IN ASIA & ACCESS FOR INDUSTRIAL IOT INFRASTRUCTURE TO CLOUD APPLICATIONS

9:45AM KEYNOTE PANEL DISCUSSION: SPOTLIGHT ON CHINA - A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY Earlier this year, BT became the first non-Chinese telecoms firm to be granted a nationwide operating license in China. China’s Ministry of Commerce intends to broaden market access, to allow other international firms to join the club, from carrier and content partnerships to SD-WAN joint ventures. 10:45AM COFFEE & NETWORKING BREAK

11:15AM PRESENTATION: THE FUTURE OF GAMING PLATFORMS - PREREQUISITES FOR

MAINSTREAM CLOUD GAMING

11:30AM PANEL DISCUSSION: MULTI-DIRECTIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE - CONNECTING HYPER-SCALE CORE TO THE EDGE Network, cloud, IoT and other service providers are moving the internet to a more multi-directional dynamic infrastructure to sustain the volume and speed of demand for content, applications and data, which is putting extreme pressure on existing network infrastructure. Creating a more distributed network through Edge infrastructure will mitigate the traffic build-up which is symptomatic of a uni-directional download centric model.

• How can a hybrid model of core and edge infrastructure function effectively? • How can data centres collaborate with service providers to build a more interconnected Edge? • What are the implications of multi-directional infrastructure for data security?

12:15PM PANEL DISCUSSION: LEVERAGING TIER 2 FIBRE NETWORKS TO SUPPORT

MARKET ENTRY International carriers seeking to operate in new markets in Asia want to manage risk and costs efficiently and one way of doing this is to partner with smaller Tier 2 fibre network operators to facilitate the launch and ensure access to the underserved communities in this region. • What services do ISPs/ fibre network operators provide to carriers and what will the carrier need to outsource? • What infrastructure do market entrants need access to immediately? • What are the regional specificities international carriers should be aware of when initiating operations in Asia? • Are larger carriers aware of the trend to partner with Tier 2 players for local loop requirements and are they addressing the missed opportunity?
