Congratulations to Dr. Judith Tansky, a resident of Mary Pomerene Alumnae Scholarship House from 1964 to 1968, honored with The OSU Fisher College of Business Excellence in Service Award. Dr. Tansky is a senior lecturer at Fisher and has been instrumental in creating, fostering and supporting the college’s social entrepreneurship program and curriculum. A triple Buckeye, Dr. Judy Tansky (BS ’68, MAcc ’75, PhD ’91) is a popular leader in the classroom, teaching courses on human resources in small and entrepreneurial firms, employee development, career development, the contingent workforce, reward systems, benefits and compensation theory. The Excellence in Service Award is presented to an extraordinary alumna or alumnus who has demonstrated a consummate commitment to service — from his or her alma mater, to the local community and to humankind. As Janet Bay, M.D., she completed a residency in neurology at New York University, and then a residency in neurosurgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Bay was deeply involved in the building of the OhioHealth Neuroscience Center, which opened in July of 2015, where she was the first to perform surgery in the iMRI Suite. Alumnae and students met at Hanley House on Thursday, October 26, 2017, for dinner and a discussion of the Buckeye Book Community selection, Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption, by Bryan Stevenson. They were touched by the author’s comments as they watched the live-stream of his lecture in Mershon auditorium. Mr. Stevenson shared his story, that of persons in the book, and his belief that we have the power to change the world by fighting against fear and anger and getting proximate to those who are suffering; changing current narratives about children and race; remaining hopeful; and being willing to do things that are uncomfortable.
