Technology is integratetd across all Key Learning Areas.

Now taking Enrolments for 2014 We are now taking enrolments for 2014, particularly for kindergarten. If you have a child or know of a child who will be enrolling at Ashcroft Public School in 2014, please contact the office. The sooner that we have notification of student numbers for 2014, the sooner we can begin to structure our classes. Transition to Big School Our kindergarten transition days are fast approaching. Students who are coming to our kindergarten classes in 2014 are to attend our transition program on the following days : Friday 25/10/2013 9:00am – 11:00am Friday 1/11/2013 9:00am – 11:00am Friday 8/11/2013 9:00am – 11:00am Parents are welcome to an information session that will be run at the same time as the transition program.

Classes at Work As I travel around the school, I am always amazed at how hard working our students are. They are willing to try their best and are eager to learn new things. Below are some photos taken during the first week of this term.

Mrs Palmerone is reading the book "Pam, Pam". The story was very interesting and the students enjoyed listening to Mrs Palmerone read.

CanTeen Bandana Day – A Great Success! Thank you to those who supported the CanTeen Bandana Day last Friday. The response was overwelming – we sold all the bandanas and pens – what a wonderful achievement by the whole Ashcroft Public School community. CanTeen is the only organisation of its kind supporting 12-24 year olds who are living with cancer - whether they have cancer themselves, their brother, sister or parent has cancer, or their brother, sister or parent has died from cancer.

Thank you students for supporting the CanTeen Bandana Day initiative.

CanTeen believes that no young person should face cancer alone. That's why CanTeen provides a range of free programs, services and resources to help young people aged 12-24 deal with the emotional, physical and practical issues of cancer, so they can take back control of their lives.

The bandanas put a big smile on the faces of some of our younger students.

Bandanas proved to be great fashion accessories Preschool Turning Green Our preschool have been working on a project, looking at sustainability. This has included a gardening initiative, as well as work on composting. They have established a compost bin, as well as a worm farm. Mrs Holland and Mrs Schinella are very proud of all the students and all their hard work.

Students and teacher discussing the effects of our preschool’s worm farm.

Our preschool students learning how to count.

INFORMATION FROM THE C.L.O: Cameron Outterside

NAPLAN Workshop Thank you to the parents who attended our NAPLAN workshop on 22/10/13. At the workshop we reviewed the NAPLAN process from assessment to data and Mr Koletti explained how we use a combination of NAPLAN and school-based assessment data, to formulate plans and strategies to promote progression of our students in literacy and numeracy. The following website is a great one for parents and carers, containing fact sheets, sample assessment papers and videos: www.nap.edu.au If you have any queries, please contact me any Tuesday at the school or email me at the address below: [email protected]

Community Garden The Beehive vegetable garden is now fully operational and in need of care and maintenance.

Ashcroft PS parents and carers are invited to maintain the vegetable garden (weed, water, compost) as the vegetables grow. Those who are involved in the project will then be entitled to share in the produce (fruit/vegetables).

The garden is already producing beautiful lettuce, spinach and many other healthy vegetables. Through parent/carer help we can sustain a wonderful shared resource. Have a look!

If you would like to be involved, contact me or Andrea Giunta (Beehive | p 8783 0951). Have a great week. Cameron Outterside l Community Liaison Officer [email protected] l p: 9607 8202
