From the Cluttered Desk...
Lent is a time when many of us come face to face with our sins. When we
think of the death of Christ, we may consider times when we have betrayed
the Lord and therefore bear the burden of guilt.
Lent is also a time when we can consider how to get rid of guilt and how to
find peace of soul again.
Here are some suggestions about handling guilt and receiving forgiveness:
1. Consider that Christ Jesus died for our sins. We don’t have to put our-
selves on a cross of self-punishment to get atonement. The Scripture
affirms: “By his wounds you have been healed” (1 Peter 2:24).
2. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us
our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
3. Let at least one other Christian brother or sister know what has
been done. Pastors are trained to listen to such confessions and to
keep them confidential. The appropriate Scripture reference is from
James 5:16: “Confess your sins to one another, and pray for one
another, so that you may be healed.”
4. Insofar as possible try to make restitution for wrongs done. If acts
of penance and restitution will only make the problem worse,
move on, knowing that at least God forgives you.
5. Take your eyes off of yourself and begin to look for ways of
serving God in your community. Service to others brings healing
and therapy.
6. Always remember that Christ came to give us abundant life not a
guilt-ridden, self-effacing, meaningless existence. Receive the
gift and appreciate the joy of it.
May our Lenten Journey be one of repentance and forgiveness.

The Pack furnished pizza for all. They had a great time cheering on their friends. The Blue and Gold Banquet was held on Feb. 23rd in the Social Hall. Kairos # 33Kairos # 33Kairos # 33Kairos # 33............
Kairos # 33 at Broad River CI --- April 18-21 I continue to value the support that the AMUMC family has given me and this ministry. The needs are the same for every Kairos weekend. Prayer is the most important need. This is a prayer driven ministry --- Prayer Sign-up Sheets will appear in Sunday School Classes mid March. The name of each person who is part of the Prayer Vigil is prominently displayed on a 24 hour Prayer Wheel during the weekend as a reminder to all that they are not alone. It always amazes the residents to know that there are so many people praying for them. Cookies are our next biggest need. Homemade cookies are best but we will accept store bought cookies as well. If you are baking cookies remember to pray for the men who will receive them as you do. Pack all cookies in Zip-Lock bags (as many cookies that will fit). Cookies need to be delivered to the church by noon on Wednesday, April 17. Finally we need green agape. Five meals are served to over 90 men on a weekend and with the cost of food rising this is the major expense of the weekend. Your check should be made out to “Kairos of South Carolina”. Men, I continue to offer you an opportunity to personally participate in this important ministry. Years ago I thought, “No way” but I continue to thank God for the lessons I have learned through my faithfulness in this ministry. Don’t pass up the blessings that God may have in store for you.
