ARUN YOUNG MUSICIANS’ FESTIVAL 2018 At the 3 days of classes early in November 2018, the Adjudicators selected 12 individuals, 1 group of three and 2 choirs to perform in the Gala Concert. This was held in The Littlehampton Academy on Sunday 18 November 2018. A large and appreciative audience followed each item with enthusiastic applause. Finally the Adjudicator Ben Costello had the unenviable task of selecting the winners. Whilst this went on we were entertained by James Dew, 2017 Arun Young Musician, on cello. The prizewinners are: Paul Blackwell Trophy (Young vocalist, 12 years and under): Amelie Beauchamp. Amelie sang Just Around the Riverbend from Pocohontas. Rustington Music Group Trophy (Young instrumentalist, 12 years and under): Ivo Eastwood, piano. Ivo played Polish Song by Hiller and Clowns by Kabelevsky. Susannah Flegg Trophy (Vocalist): Barty Hawkins. Barty sang She Moved Through the Fair, a traditional Irish folk song. The Raven Cup (Instrumentalist): Hannah Woods, piano. Hannah played Sommervise by Grøndahl. Ruth Dyson Trophy (Ensemble): Abigail Boyle, Jessica Jezzard, Nevaeh Lee, voice. Abigail, Jessica and Nevaeh sang Forget About the Boy from Thoroughly Modern Millie. Angmering Chorale Bursary (Vocalist):Emily Williams. Emily sang O del Mio Dolce Ardor by Gluck. Sinfonia of Arun Bursary (Instrumentalist): Lucia Peel, recorder. Lucia played Zu Hause by Lichner and Allegretto in C major by Hook. Rotary Club of Littlehampton Award (Most promising musician): Ben Ward, guitar. Ben played Andantino by Canelli and Night Piece by Nuttall & Whitworth. Arun Choral Society Shield and Award (Choir of the year): The Littlehampton Academy Choir. The choir sang Read all About It by Sandé. Vi Casey Trophy (Arun Young Musician Runner-up): Ashtyn Roworth, vocalist. Ashtyn sang Colours of the Wind from Pocohontas. Arun Young Musician 2018: Harry Ward, violin. Harry played Bolero in A minor by Bohm.
