National Endowment for the Arts Grant Opportunities Announcement

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) is pleased to announce that application guidelines for FY 2006 are now available on-line. Application information; application forms and application deadlines can be downloaded at www.arts.gov/grants/apply. Volunteers Needed for the 2005 Rochester International Jazz Festival, June 10-18!

Music fans, here’s your opportunity to hear some great jazz, meet people and support the nation’s fastest growing jazz festival. Volunteers are needed to help at evening concerts checking tickets and club passes, selling festival merchandise, and providing hospitality. Shift times are between 5 p.m. and midnight. Volunteers will receive a free official shirt and a one-day Club Pass to enter any Club Pass show (space allowing). The Rochester International Jazz Festival is one of world’s the most multi-dimensional festivals showcasing all genres of crea-tive improvised music. The Downstairs Cabaret Theatre is pleased to announce SEX SIRENS OF THE 1940s, 50s & 60s, which premieres July 15 at the Downstairs Cabaret Theatre Center, 540 East Main St. Quinn Lemley, the Indiana-born theatre actress and jazz vocalist, stars in the one-woman, 90-minute show. SEX SIRENS is a tribute to screen and sound sirens of the 40s, 50s and 60s, including Eartha Kitt, Marilyn Monroe, Marlene Dietrich and Julie London, who have influenced Lemley’s personal and professional journey. Lemley tenderly combines humor and nostalgia in songs such as “A Woman Wouldn’t Be a Woman,” “I Wanna Be Evil,” “Every Baby Needs A Da-Da-Daddy/Daddy” and “Laziest Girl in Town.” She is accompanied by piano, bass, drums and alto saxophone. Performances of SEX SIRENS OF THE 1940s, 50s & 60s will run July 15 and 22 at 8 p.m., July 16 and 23 at 8:30 p.m., and July 17 and 24 at 3 p.m. at the Downstairs Cabaret Theatre Center, 540 East Main St. Free parking is available in the East End Garage. The Friends of Mount Hope Cemetery and the RMSC Players present two dramatic, interactive walking tours set in beautiful, historic Mount Hope Cemetery. Tickets for each performance are $10 for adults and $5 for children aged 3-18. The plays begin at the cemetery’s North Gatehouse, 791 Mount Hope Avenue, opposite Robinson Drive. Rochester Harbor & Carousel Festival, June 24-26, 2005 The spectacular Rochester Harbor & Carousel Festival is back! Construction at Ontario Beach is completed, the new terminal is beautiful and the ferry will be operating again, the Denzel Carou-sel turns 100!-and so for many wonderful reasons, Rochester celebrates its popular waterfront-June 24-26, 2005! The Ontario Beach Park Program Committee (OBPPC) invites members of the Greater Rochester Visitors Association, as well as those of the Arts & Cultural Council for Greater Rochester, to exhibit during the festival. Over150,000 people are expected to visit the festival, topped off by the arrival of Tall Ship Fair Jeanne and evening fireworks, both on Saturday. Entertainment, children's activities, an antique car show, arts & crafts show, Coast Guard and ma-rine rescue demonstrations, are also part of this three-day event. Here's a great opportunity to present your organization to festival goers from Rochester, Toronto and others throughout the region. Do you know that every year hundreds of city school students who would like to take music lessons are turned away because of a shortage of instruments? The Rochester Education Foundation (REF) is launching Spring for Music, a community-wide musical instrument drive to benefit children in the Rochester City Schools. R.E.F. is asking the community to donate new or used instruments to drop off sites around the county during the month of May. WHEN: We are asking the community to drop off instruments, to various sites, throughout the month of May. If your organi-zation wants to collect instruments from members or parishoners just call REF at 325-8301 to make pick up arrangements. Carriage Ride Season opens June 3 at the Granger Homestead Join in the fun. Take a ride back in time with a horse-drawn carriage ride in Canandaigua on Thursday, Friday and Sunday after-noons. Thursday afternoons June to October, 45 minute narrated Woodlawn Cemetery Carriage Tours are offered. The costumed driver will share the history and lore of our locals as the carriage makes it way through the beautiful landscapes at Woodlawn.
