I’m pleased to welcome you to Benicia on the

weekend of Benicia Open Studios, sponsored by

Arts Benicia. It’s one of our busiest weekends all

year, and for good reason. This weekend is your

opportunity to step inside the studios and

galleries of some of the Bay Area’s most talented

artists, talk to them about the work they do, and

enjoy the ambiance of a community rich in art.

We’re very proud of our artistic and culturally

rich community -- it’s part of what makes

Benicia a popular and family-friendly town to

visit, and a great place to live. While you ’re

here, I encourage you to spend plenty of time

in our Historic Benicia Arsenal, a former military

ordnance supply depot in the 1950s, but now

home to many artist studios and small

businesses. Visit locations along our vibrant

First Street to the scenic waterfront, where

friendly merchants in our restaurants, bookshops,

galleries, boutiques, antique shops, and cafes

are eager to say hello and help make your time

in Benicia memorable and fun.

For more than three decades Arts Benicia has

been a cornerstone of the cultural life of our

community, providing art exhibitions, classes and

programs of interest to all ages. I hope you will

keep this handsome catalog throughout the year

as a reminder of your Open Studios experience,

exhibition of artwork by participating artists and

throughout the Historic Benicia Arsenal, on First

Street, and other nearby Benicia locations.

3. Hop on the free SolTrans shuttle bus to easily get

from the Arsenal to Downtown and back.

Day Camp Classes

Arts Benicia’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of artists

is multi-faceted. We offer and support many programs for children

from preschool through high school.

Arts Benicia After School (ABAS) provides artist-led series at

elementary schools in Benicia. ABAS is open to all Benicia school children

regardless of where they attend school.

Our Teen Art Program (TAP) offers workshops and classes for teens at

Arts Benicia as well as an After School Art Club at Liberty High School in

partnership with Benicia Unified School District. Mentoring, artistic

development, and leadership skills are emphasized in the TAP.

School Tours at Arts Benicia provide students with a fun and educational

experience viewing contemporary art exhibitions, and always include an

engaging hands-on art project.

Art Classes for Adults


Arts Benicia’s classes range from one-time workshops to ongoing series featuring a variety of artistic media, styles, and techniques. The adult education program serves beginners through advanced and includes professional development classes for all levels of artists.
