1.LIVE MUSIC FUND

One of the things that makes Perry-Mansfield’s programs so unique is that daily technique classes

are accompanied by live music, and whenappropriate, performances are as well.

This tradition of training and performing with live artists is a commitment that our Artistic Directors

cherish and have asked to be #1 on their list of important artistic ventures.

One of our favorite buildings on campus is Louis Horst Studio. It is named after the musician/

composer who accompanied Martha Graham throughout her career. Mr. Horst’s book,

Pre-Classic Dance Forms, is the manual used in every dance department in the country for

composition and choreography classes. Let music ring!

2.Mark Morris Dance Group

This year, for the first time, Perry-Mansfield is proud to

announce that Mark Morris Dance Group

will be part of our summer curriculum with a

Repertory Residency.

One of the founding artists of the Company, Teri Weksler,

will spend a week on campus, teaching modern dance

technique and Mark Morris repertory.

The MMDG residency will culminate in an informal open

rehearsal of the repertory that our

Pre-Professional Intensive students have been learning.

And, an extra wonderful bit of trivia . . .

five Mark Morris dancers are Perry-Mansfield alums!

It is so wonderful to deepen our connection to this

important choreographer and to have

MMDG dancers back on campus.

3.NO HERO Residency

We are thrilled to announce that choreographer Alex Ketley and two of his dancers will be in residence at

Perry-Mansfield in March, 2014. The project they are working on is called “No Hero,” and it has received

funding from The Princess Grace Foundation to prepare a tour of the southern United States. We are offering our studios to them to work together before their tour begins,

and the benefits are many. Mr. Ketley will teach a choreography workshop to our local high school dancers; the trio will perform and screen their

film of “No Hero” at Bud Werner Memorial Library on March 26th; and, they will also dance at

Perry-Mansfield’s 2nd Annual Snowshoe+Chili Event — now called “Dancers on Snowshoe,” on March 29thThis is our second artist residency project this year,

and with your help, we will continue to share wonderful artists with the City of Steamboat Springs.

4.Choreographer:

Amy Seiwert

One of the most important contemporary ballet choreographers of her generation, Amy Seiwert has agreed

to set a work on our dancers for the Evening of Dance. Some of you may know her because she has had a

Colorado presence over the last few years by creating work for Colorado Ballet and Ballet Nouveau.

About Ms. Seiwert: “ballet is an expressive and vital voice relevant to our times. The artists I work with share the belief that through collaboration & experimentation, vibrant and courageous ideas are expressed and habitual

reactions are discouraged. Our mission is to expand the definition of ballet by exploding preconceptions

of what ballet is and can be.”

Help us bring Amy to camp!
