First Grade – Cathlin LaRocco
How I Define Literacy○ Literacy is being able to produce and comprehend
both oral and written language.
○ Some think of literacy as being English Language Arts. We need to expand our understanding to think of being literate as producing and comprehending language in all disciplines: in math, in technology, and in science as well.
○ Literacy is the foundation to what we know and learn about the world.

Kindergarten - Blake Siskavich
How I Define LiteracyI feel literacy is better learned and understood when experienced not only through interactions with print but also with multi-modal experiences such as musical concerts. Technology allows me to create sounds and visuals to the text that enhance the learning experience by creating an engaging multisensory approach to literacy. It allows children the experience of being engaged in and interacting with the text.

Making learning visible-
POPPLET
• "Thank you for sending along the Popplet about the teddy bear sleep over activities. Having the pictures made asking questions and sharing really fun for the whole family."
PreK - Deb McLean
Preliminary Findings○ Theme 1: Literacy was embedded throughout
instruction in the literacy and disciplinary classrooms
○ Theme 2: Teachers created communities of practices and used technology to support these
○ Theme 3: Communities of practice extended beyond the walls of the classroom to include colleagues, parents, and global community through the use of technology
