Introduction: Artificial islands are the islands that are created by
human active construction rather than natural formation. created by expanding existing islets, construction on
existing reefs, or amalgamating several natural islets into a bigger island.
In modern times artificial islands are usually formed by land reclamation
Artificial islands may vary widely in scale, from small islets reclaimed solely for supporting a single pillar of a building or structure, to those which support entire communities.
Creating an artificial island is an expensive and risky undertaking. It is often considered in places that are densely populated and flat land is scarce
DURRAT AL BAHRAINArtificial island project in Bahrain located in and around the azure waters of the southern Bahrain seas, similar to the Palm islands in Dubai.

Threat to marine ecology- Construction activity is damaging the marine habitat, burying coral reefs, oyster beds and subterranean fields of sea grass, threatening local marine species as well as other species dependent on them for food
Profound underwater changes- As a result of the dredging and redepositing of sand for the construction of the islands, the typically crystalline waters of the gulf of Dubai have
become severely clouded with silt Erosion problems Estimated erosion of 8-10 per yr Natural beaches affected
