Articulation Agreement for Transfer

from Chaffey College to Scripps College

Women accepted for admission to Scripps College from Chaffey College will be eligible for junior class standing when they have completed a minimum of 64 transferable semester units. Chaffey College women who have maintained a B average or higher in at least 32 transferable units are encouraged to apply. Women completing the Honors Program as part of at least 64 transferable semester units at Chaffey College are recognized as well-prepared and are guaranteed priority consideration at the junior level.

Transfer Credit Limitations 1. A maximum of 64 transferable semester units (equivalent to 16 Scripps courses) will

be accepted from Chaffey College for transfer to Scripps College. 2. Only courses graded “C” or higher (not including C-) will be accepted for transfer.

3. Courses passed on a Credit/No Credit basis at Chaffey College will count only as

elective credit toward the bachelor’s degree requirements and will not meet any General Requirements or major or minor requirements at Scripps College.

4. No grades of transfer courses will be used in computing the cumulative grade point

average at Scripps College.

5. Those courses at Chaffey College numbered 1-99 and identified in the Chaffey College Catalog as being transferable to the University of California (UC) without limitations and offered in academic disciplines also offered at the undergraduate Claremont Colleges (Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, Pitzer, Pomona and Scripps Colleges) will be accepted as transfer credit.

Transfer credit will not be granted for: Administration of Justice; Biology 14; Broadcasting; Business except 28A/B; Chemistry 9; Child Development and Education; Communication Studies except 12; Dance except 1, 2 3A/B, or 5A/B; Fashion Design or Fashion Merchandising; Geographic Information Systems; Geography except 4 and 5; Geology 30, 30T, 75A/B; Journalism; Management; Mathematics 4, 25, 60; Music Performance 32, 33, 60, 62, 67; Nutrition and Food; Physical Education (Activity, Adaptive, Lecture, or Team); Psychology 25; Social Science 13; Theatre 18 or 50-60. Courses in any discipline numbered 92 or 98 will only be considered for transfer credit by petition.

6. No transfer credit will be accepted from a Chaffey College transcript for credit earned

by examination or military experience. Transfer credit for Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and CLEP will be considered separately upon presentation of scores and as defined in the Scripps College catalog.

7. Applicability of transfer credit to meet requirements in the student’s major will

normally be limited to introductory courses and will normally be considered only as prerequisite to the major.

8. Transfer credit earned as semester units at Chaffey College will be converted to

Scripps College courses based upon one semester unit being equivalent to one fourth (.25) Scripps course. One Scripps course is equivalent to four semester units. Any individual Chaffey course equivalent to three semester units or more may be considered to meet a specific requirement at Scripps.

Applicability of Chaffey College Courses towards Scripps College General Education Requirements

ENGL 1A required; ENGL 1B strongly recommended. First-Year Writing

Requirement Transfer students will be placed into the Core sequence based upon their class standing at entrance. Students who transfer with the equivalent to 4 or fewer Scripps courses will begin with Core I and complete the 3-course sequence. Students who transfer with the equivalent to 5-8 courses will complete Core II and III. Students who transfer as first-semester sophomores (8-12 courses) must complete only Core III. Transfer students entering Scripps with the equivalent of 12 or more Scripps courses will be waived from the Core Curriculum requirement.

Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities

Fine Arts: One 3- or 4-unit transferable course from studio Art—10, 12-44 (but not Art History), Music, Photography; or Theatre Arts; and Letters: One 3-unit transferable course from Art History—1-9 or 11, English Literature, Philosophy or Spanish Literature (7, 8 or 13); and Natural Sciences: One transferable course with laboratory from: Anthropology 1/1L; Astronomy 35 or 36; Biology 1-5, 10/10L, 20; Chemistry 7, 10 or 21/21L1/21L2; Earth Science 1/1L, 5/5L; Geography 4/5; Geology 1, 2 or 20; Physical Science 10; Physics 5/6, 20A, 44; and Social Sciences: One 3-unit transferable course from Anthropology (except Anthropology 1/1L), Economics; History; Political Science; Psychology 1; Social Science except 10; or Sociology.

Demonstrated competency equivalent to or completion of one of the following 3-course sequences, or completion of a higher level course for which third semester is prerequisite: American Sign Language 1, 2 and 3 (4 highly recommended); Chinese 1 and 2 with third semester to be completed at The Claremont Colleges; French 1, 2 and 3 (4 highly recommended); German 1 and 2 with third semester to be completed at The Claremont Colleges; or Spanish 1 (or 1A/B or 1SS), 2 (or 2A/B or 2SS) and 3 (4 highly recommended).

Foreign Language (Competency equivalent to completion of at least three semesters and intermediate level)

One course from among: Math 61 (or higher level Calculus course); Social Science 10; or Statistics 10.

Mathematics

To be completed at The Claremont Colleges. Gender and Women’s

Studies Requirement One 3-unit transferable course from among the following: English 74, Asian-American Literature; English 76, African-American Literature; English 79, Native American Literature; History 50 or 51, African American History I or II; History 71, Chicanos: The Chicano Minority in the United States; Political Science 25, Latino Politics; or Social Science 25, Introduction to Chicano/Latino Studies.
