ARTH-A231 THE AGE OF GIANTS:ART IN THE TIME OF LEONARDO

AND MICHELANGELO

This course will investigate the art of Italy during the Renaissance. We will focus much of our time on the artists of central Italy, including such luminaries as Masaccio, Donatello, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, and Michelangelo. In addition, we will examine the puzzling phenomenon of Mannerism (Pontormo, Bronzino, Parmigianino) and the warm, painterly naturalism of Venetian art (Giovanni Bellini, Giorgione, Titian).
