Evaluation Excerpts

Attitude: “Sergeant Morton is receptive to input from others and is flexible in his thinking. He

does not get so personally invested into a position that he cannot hear what others are saying on

the topic.”

Leadership: “Sergeant Morton has two kinds of authority within the police department. He has

‘official’ authority because he is a patrol sergeant and a shift supervisor. He also has ‘unofficial

authority’ because of who he is. He is a very well respected throughout all levels of the

department because of the forthright and committed person he is. Sergeant Morton models

collaboration throughout our department and with other agencies. Whenever we need any type

of assistance from another agency, he knows who to call and is also called directly by members

of other agencies needing our help.”

Integrity: “He is highly respected for his job knowledge and personal integrity. He quickly

accepts challenges that others might shy away from. He is known to be empathetic and fair.”

Service: “Art’s commitment to public service and the citizens serves as a standard for other

employees. He is always courteous and open when dealing with citizens and other employees.

He volunteers to be on committees within the department and with outside agencies, being

diligent in monitoring progress on projects.”

Teamwork: “In the police department, there is no one who exemplifies teamwork better than Art.

He has taken less preferable shifts to accommodate other Sergeants’ scheduling requests. He

takes any assignment his is given and works well with everyone involved. As a member of the

TNT team, Art has been tireless in promoting interagency cooperation.”
