"A line is a dot that went for a walk"- study of the seated boy with twigs ", 1894

In the drawing we can see the artist depicting a boy that is enjoying nature. He is playing with two broken

branches. Even though he is somehow killing the nature, he still enjoys it. I can associate the quote with

the picture because it looks like the artist did not take the pencil rom the paper rom the moment he started

it until the moment he inished it. It has a long, continuous touch in which he gives us the most details he

can with the least material. He tells us that the human and nature have to combine themselves in order to

    create a whole.

"The nature is man, nature himself and a piece of nature" - astor !ohl, 19#

!he artist had a very unique way to e"press his eeling in this painting. It depicts a sad pastor that is

surrounded by dying nature, but the living one is just around the corner and is about to come. #aybe he

tries to tell us that hard times happend until now$ like autumn and winter which e"plain the yellow aded

nature around the pastor) and the good times are around $ spring and summer that surround the aded

parts with bright green and are ready to take over) which will maybe make the pastor more happy in the

    uture.

    %) astor !ohl - 19# - atterns

!he pattern that makes the art unique is that the artist drew small even standing rectangles all over the

painting. Every centimeter is depicted like this and it gives meaning to the whole picture. He gives shapes

through colors and ew continuous lines in order to shape the ace rom the oreground. He details it asmuch as possible even the sad e"pression o his eyes. Even without the lines that make up his ace the

pattern o the painting would make sense through its details.

    The $ast %till $ife - 194& - 'olor theory

!he last still lie is considered to be the last painting o the artist. It was ound in the attic o the house he

was living in by his son. It didn&t have a name so the son named it. 'e can see that through his lie his

style changed a lot, rom simple sketches, to bright and colorul paintings, and in the last part o his lie

most o them were dark. In this painting the background is completely black and the other objects and

persons that are depicted are also made with dark details which may signiy a more depressed part o his

    lie.

    (aternity - "%eated )oman* Thin +eck"

In this sculpture we can see how the artist depicts a woman with thin ace looking up, maybe searching or

Hope or power. Her hands are tangled in the ront o her body maybe because she is pregnant and her

maternity instincts kick in. (o matter i human or not, all mothers have the instincts to protect their children with

their lives. he is trying to ind power to bring her baby into the earth and give him*her the best lie she can

    oer.

    rehistoric )arrior with shield.

Here we have an incomplete man with + partially missing limbs trying to protect himsel rom something or

someone. It can be said that he looks more or less surprised because the artist sculpted an covering his

mouth maybe meaning that he is speechless. -iving the act he is bare naked and only with a shield maybe a

creature attacked him during the night and he is ighting to stay alive until the last drop o power.
