He re-ceived his Bachelor’s degree in psychology from DePauw University. “I graduated from Whiteland in 2007 and I will be one of the guidance counseling interns this year. One of the things I like the most about the corporation is how it is constantly growing and expanding. It seems like each time I come back to the school there are new improvements made to the building, athletic facilities, etc.” He is single and his hobbies include playing golf, playing video games, watching sports on T.V., and doing anything outside. Mr. Justin Brownfield (Social Studies)- Mr. Brownfield was here the 2012-2013 year for Mr. Rector, who was on military duty. He taught at Indian Creek last year. He is currently attending Butler University and is in the last year of their school counseling program. He will be in the Guidance office this school year. “I am fortunate to also be the head coach for the high school boys’ golf team and an assistant on the high school girls’ golf team. It is a blessing that I am able to do my internship at the same school I coach at. My fiancée Morgan and I are getting married this coming March. She just so happens to be a Whiteland grad (small world).” Ms. Rachel Cravens (Math)- She graduated from Olivet Col-lege (Michigan) in 2006. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education with a minor in HPERS (Health, Physical Education & Recreation Services). She is teaching both Algebra I and Geometry. She teaches Algebra I at WCHS-9 and Geometry at the main building. Her husband grew up in Johnson County and was offered a job near the area. We moved to Center Grove this March and I was offered a job in May working for WCHS as a Math Teacher. “I love that I now work in the same community as many of my family and friends. I also love that CPCSC is a
family of its own. I have felt welcomed and cared about since the very beginning.” She has been married to her husband, Andrew Cravens, for over six years. They have two beautiful children, Max (2 ½) and Abby (5 months). She loves being outdoors! “I have enjoyed lots of hobbies over the years including running, hik-ing, camping, climbing, biking and skiing.” Mr. Todd Croy (Science)- Mr. Croy, a longtime Whiteland Warrior native, has transferred back into our high school from CPMS. She is interested in bike riding. She just got back from Colorado to watch a professional bike race. She loves to swim, bike and run. Ms. Marie Gebhart (Special Services)-”I am excited to start my 1st year teaching at Whiteland Community High School. The Warrior Way is definitely conveyed here every day! This is my 7th year teaching. Prior to getting my Special Education degree & endorsement in Language Arts at IUPUI, I was a recreational therapist. I am working on my masters in Special Education, at Ball State via online courses. I am happy to work in Johnson Co. because some of my cousins go to school in Clark Pleasant Community School Corporation and my daughter goes to school in Center Grove. We like to hike, bike, travel, and vol-unteer, go to festivals, sporting events, movies, and con-certs. I am really enjoying meeting and working with every-one here at WCHS -9 & WCHS.” Mrs. Jenny Gillespie (Special Services) -Mrs. Gillespie graduated from Franklin College in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in education. “I am joining a wonderful team of teachers teaching Special Education. Ms. Abby Gross (English)- Ms. Gross graduated from the University of Indianapolis last May with a degree in English Education, with an endorsement in reading and journalism. She will be teaching English 11 American Studies and Jour-nalism, as well as advising our school newspaper, Smoke Signals. “I chose Whiteland because I was offered my “dream job” that combines my two passions for English and Journalism. I never thought I would have the opportunity to teach both and advise a school newspaper until later on in my career, so I felt incred-ibly blessed to receive this position. Besides having a spot that was a perfect fit for me, I chose WCHS because administra-tion was 100% welcoming and caring from the very beginning, even when I was a nervous wreck during my first-ever teach-ing interview!” Ms. Gross is the eldest of five children. Her family lives in Ohio and tried their hardest to get her to move back there. She fell in love with the Indianapolis area and stayed here. “I miss them lots though!” She enjoys playing soccer, working out, reading, shopping, making jewelry, drawing and eating Nutella. Mr. Bob Hartman (Business)- Mr. Hartman is teaching Pre-paring for College and Careers, Personal Finance, Digital Citi-zenship, and Business Management. His education consists of a degree in Business Management in 1988, an M.P.A. in Labor Relations in 1995, and a M.A.T. in 2011 from Indiana University in Personal Finance. He came to Whiteland because a position in the Business department opened up and he enjoys WCHS because he “likes the extremely helpful and pleasant atmosphere, as well as PLC’s.” He is married to Alice (OB/GYN physician) and they have 5 children, two boys and 3 girls: Jordan (19– sophomore at IU), Lillie (17-senior at Seymour), Grace (16– a sophomore at Sey-mour), Daniel (14–an 8th grader at Immanuel Lutheran in Sey-mour), and Elizabeth (12-a 7th grader at Immanuel Lutheran). He enjoys spending time with family and his 4 dogs. He coaches soccer at Seymour High School. Ms. Nicole Holladay (Science)- She has a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology from Michigan State University and a Masters in Teaching from University of Indianapolis as a part of the Woodrow Wilson Indiana Teaching Fellowship Program. I live in Indianapo-lis with my Jack Russell mix, Clover. I am excited to be spending this year here in Whiteland.”
Mrs. Sarah King (English)- I attended Indiana University and spent my first year of teaching at a private school in No-blesville. In my free time I enjoy running, reading, and spend-ing time with family! Ms. Jessica Lyons (English)- Ms. Lyons graduated from IUPUI with a license in secondary education for English. She has received her masters from Indiana Wesleyan in curriculum design with a principal’s license. She will be teaching English 10, AP Literature and Biblical Literature. She has a son who is five years old. What she likes most about being at Whiteland is the “sense of com-radery. Ms. Elizabeth Moffett (JAG)-Ms. Moffett is excited to be the JAG (Jobs for America’s Graduates) Specialist at WCHS. She attended Franklin College, and earned a degree in Secondary Education Social Studies. “My experience at FC was amazing, and further instilled in me the many reasons why I love John-son County. My experiences at FC allowed to me to become a well-rounded and open-minded educator, making me perfect for my position as a JAG Specialist. JAG provides students with several leadership opportunities, career research, and college discovery. I love to see the light bulb moment when kids realize what career path they want to pursue or what col-lege they want to attend.” As previously mentioned, she enjoys her time living in John-son County during her college years at FC, and was hoping to be one day fortunate enough to work somewhere near the area. That is one of the several reasons why Whiteland seemed appealing to her. “Even though Whiteland may have been a rival for me growing up since I attended Center Grove (don’t hold that against me!), I already feel at home in this community. I am looking forward to bringing the same, if not better, successes to the Whiteland JAG program as I have in other JAG programs. Let’s have a great year, JAG!” Mrs. Patricia Munn (Instructional Support)- She is a new Instructional Assistant here at the high school. I am a part of the English team (Mrs. Cecil and Mrs. Due) as well as the Math team (Mrs. Land and Mr. Williams). “Everyone has made me feel very welcome. Though each day brings new challenges, I am excited each morning to begin the day with the students and staff here. I am married and have two sons; one of which is a junior at this school.” She loves scrapbooking, photography, nature, and animals. My favorite animal is a bunny of which I have 3. I previously taught Kindergarten for 9years. “This has been a great change for me, in the best way possible.”
Operation Bundle-Up at WCHS!
CPCSC has been collecting winter coats for United Way of Johnson County's Operation Bundle Up for over 10 years. Each year we have increased in the num-ber of winter coats collected for Johnson County res-idents. The coats are much needed especially be-cause of the brutal weather we had this past winter season. This year we are attempting to break our record but we need your help.
Collection will be at WCHS September 29-October 4 OR bring coats to WCHS-Mooresville football game. New or gently worn winter coats are needed. Distribution of coats will be November 7th. This is a project coordinated by WCHS Peer Helpers and sponsored by United Way of Johnson County.

FROM WCHS-9
WCHS-9 posts student announcements through My Big Campus and PowerSchool is how you access stu-dent's grades. Anything highlighted and underlined in "blue" will allow you to click and gain more information and/or contact the individual teacher about specific class questions or about your student's progress. If you have additional questions on how to set up your PowerSchool parent account check out the following link: https://powerschool.cpcsc.k12.in.us/public/createaccounthelp.html If you have additional questions, please contact Mrs. Austin (guidance counselor) at 535-3134. What is Guided Instruction? "GI" is your student's 4th period class. It is 40 minutes, 4 days a week (20 min on Wednesdays) where all students can access their teachers for extra help, re-test, study groups, comput-er lab access and the media center. The purpose of GI is first to get extra help from teachers, then have time available to complete homework assignments. If your student says they "don't understand what is going on in class" a parent's first response should be "What do you do during GI?".
The midterm is 8/27/14. All freshmen students failing 2 or more classes as of this midterm date will be placed in an "Intensive Guided Instruction" during 4th period. Students are contained in one classroom to access additional instructional supports in the core subject areas. Students in IGI will not be able to freely choose how to use their time, participate in clubs or related activities normally held during 4th period until their grades improve. Grades are reviewed every 4 1/2 weeks and students may then "graduate" back into their normal GI classroom. IGI placements will begin on 9/3/14.
Finally, Please note page 22 of the student handbook where WCHS's Appearance/School Dress Code is outlined. Please note holes in clothing and the length of shorts must be below a student's extended finger-tips. If you have additional questions, contact Mr. Bechinski, (9th grade Dean of Students) at 535-
3186.

PSAT
The PSAT (Preliminary SAT) will be given to all 10th and 11th graders on
Wednesday, October 29th during periods 1-4. Central 9 students will be excused
from their C9 class on that day. School attendance is extremely important on
this date as we are not allowed to give any make-up exams. Students who miss
the October 29th test date will not have another opportunity to take the PSAT
until October 2015.
The PSAT is a great predictor of how students will perform on the SAT, one of
the tests required for admission to four year colleges and universities. Results
are returned to students in January. Results also include free access to online
resources for career interests, college searches, practice test and test-taking tips,
as well as individualized SAT study plans.
EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS: Preparation for the PSAT and SAT
Scheduled At Whiteland Community High School
September 8 & 9 (Monday & Tuesday) Time: 3:30 PM—6:00 PM
Dear Students and Parents:
Many colleges require an SAT test score as one of the criteria for admission. The PSAT is the basis for the National Merit Scholarship. The SAT and
the PSAT are basically the same test, with an essay section included on the SAT test. We have arranged for a five-hour seminar for your son or
daughter that will allow them to become more familiar with the PSAT/SAT and give them a chance to improve their score. Your son or daughter could
benefit from even a small score increase in the highly competitive college entrance selection process.
While repetitive practice testing is a good method of preparation, there is no substitute for a live, substantive seminar presented by an expert. Experi-
ence shows that students who take our company’s PSAT/SAT seminar achieve an average score increase of 5 to 20 points on the PSAT and an aver-
age score increase of 50 to 200 points on the SAT. Of course, the individual score increase depends on the amount of time and effort that students
spend working with the materials they will receive at this seminar.
The fee for the five-hour seminar is $79.99, a special rate for the school. By comparison, similar seminars may cost over $500 when taken privately.
Included in the seminar price are 18 practice tests and a comprehensive study guide. The essay portion of the SAT tesst will also be covered in this
seminar.
To take advantage of this opportunity you may enroll on-line at www.zaps.com and pay by credit card, or you may register your student to take a
check to the seminar. Alternatively, you may call toll-free 877-927-8378 to enroll.
Students should bring two pencils and a calculator to the seminar. This is a seminar for students of all ability levels. Enrollment is limited so please
register as soon as possible.
Attention AP Students:
The first AP Student
Conference will be November
15th at Perry Meridian High
School. More information and
permission slips will be distributed
through AP classes as the date
approaches. AP results from last
year show the average AP score of
students who attend AP Student
Conferences are one full point
higher than student who do not
attend.
Reflections in the IMC –Mrs. Snyder, Media Specialist
Times: 7:25 am-3 pm The summer went fast and now we are back in full swing here at Whiteland High School! Students are chomping at the bit for new books to arrive. Soon they will be here. It is great to see students reading and expanding their imagination, while increasing their vocabulary and comprehension.
We had asked students to read six books over the summer, any book, then write them down and submit it to me. We had a winner! Janelle Moss, was the lucky one who had her name drawn for the winner to a Samsung Galaxy tablet! Thank you to the person who wants to remain anonymous and generously donated the tablet for the prize! Each person was given a small prize for their entry. Look for more contests to spur students into reading and/or learning.
Remember to keep your student reading by providing either magazines of interests, a visit to the public library or read-ing the newspaper together, and talk about what you have read that you find interesting. This skill will help them to achieve success throughout life.
Also, be sure to have them check out our digital library for ebooks! Go to My Big Cam-pus and check out the group: Instructional Media
Center. There is a link provided to the library.

The Safe School Helpline has been an effective tool in helping to create a safer school environment by utilizing a communication link between your
school, students and parents.
*Suicide is the second leading cause of death among teens.
The Safe School Helpline is now providing an additional service allowing students to talk directly to a trained clinician at any hour of the day or night.
These professionals, with this nationally certified service, will be there to help when problems in a student’s life become too great to handle alone.
If you have any questions, please call 1-800-325-4381.

To ALL parents of WCHS students:
Please hold your student(s) accountable for any over-
due library materials.
We DO NOT charge library fees. Therefore, I am
asking for your help. We have students who have overdue
materials and other students would like to read them. Help
us by holding your student accountable for library materials
that are overdue. Also, if you happen to locate a book that
has our barcode on it that has WCHS Library over the top,
please send it back to the school, no questions asked.
If the student has lost the item, the library will
accept a replacement (exact book, same author) since we
DO NOT receive the funds back into the library accounts to
re-purchase. If you have any questions or concerns, feel
free to call me at 535-7562 ext. 3142. Thank you for your
help and support!
