Kronborg is a magnificent Renaissance Castle where Kings staged themselves as powerful rulers.The “crown jewel” of the castle is the Ballroom – the largest in Northern Europe during the Renaissance. In this great hall the kings held their grand banquets which went on for weeks.Today the hall makes a fantastic setting for any event.The hall has great acoustics which makes it well suited for everything from conferences to rock concerts. Experience the King’s Cannon Toast with drums, trumpets and cannons, immortalized by Shakespeare in his play “Hamlet”.The ballroom is open to the public but may be used for arrangements outside normal opening hours.

A beautiful Hall of the Middle Ages This hall dates back to the start of the 1400s, when it was part of the medieval fortress called “The Hook”. During the 1580’ies the hall became a part of the magnificent Renaissance castle “Kronborg”. Here, young Prince Christian 4th played and met his father “The King”.

In spite of the name, the hall is one of the largest halls at Kronborg Castle. With clean white walls, wooden floors and gigantic wooden ceiling beams, the look of this hall is almost contemporary.

The hall is very suitable for conferences, dinners and theater. Adjacent to the hall is a large antechamber which serves as the entrance room.

The Love of the KingOriginally, Kronborg Castle was meant to have only three wings.

However, the King carried a very deep love for his Queen. So natu-rally, Queen Sofie and her ladies-in-waiting were to be able to get from the Queen’s apartment in the north wing to the Ballroom and the Church Chapel in the south wing without getting wet feet. And for this purpose the King added a fourth wing to Kronborg Castle.

The Gallery is very beautiful with its considerable length and blue wooden ceiling beams. From the enormous windows there is a magnificent view of the sea or the impressive courtyard. The Gal-lery is well suited for dinners and receptions.

In the Presence of HistoryThis chamber is 600 years old and is one of the oldest rooms at the castle.

The rustic walls and wooden columns have set the stage for im-portant decisions of the Crown. Presumably, the agreement on the Sound Toll was drawn up and signed in this chamber. For 430 years this toll was very profitable to Denmark.

The room is suitable for dinners, conferences and receptions. Ad-jacent to this chamber is an antechamber in which the old embra-sures can still be seen.

The King’s Wine CellarBelow Kronborg Castle is the King’s Wine Cellar. Here, The King had a wine collection which was probably one of the largest collections in Europe during the Renaissance. He acquired the wine from the vast number of ships that went into harbor in Elsinore in order to pay the Sound Toll.

The enormous vaults of the wine cellar turn the room into an impressing sight. These days the room is used mainly for dinners and receptions. An extra room is adjacent – primarily used for catering in connection with whatever arrangements have been booked.

Hamlet Hall of FameIn the start of the 1400s, King Erik of Pomerania built the medie-val fort “The Hook”. Later on, when King Frederik 2nd built his Renaissance castle “Kronborg” in 1585, he chose to integrate the old fort, instead of tearing down the buildings. It is almost impos-sible to see from the outside, as all outside walls are covered with golden sand stones. But inside The Castle Chambers, the red brick walls of “The Hook” are completely exposed. Furthermore, The Castle Chambers provide a magnificent view through the windows to The Banquet Hall of the old fort, called “The Palatine”.

The Castle Chambers of Kronborg consist of three rooms en suite. These days the three rooms are used mainly for receptions, din-ners and meetings. Also, the rooms give access to a small room constructed as an indoor balcony, with a view to the floor below and to “The Palatine”.

Kronborg’s restaurant Krone B (Crown B), is located in the beautiful military buildings from the start of the 1700s, which encircle Kronborg Castle. The view from the restaurant to the impressive castle is outstanding. Inside the restaurant, pieces of Kronborg’s copper roof and sand stone figures, have been used for decorative purpose.

The rooms of Krone B are suitable for small meetings and small private events, which seek an intimate atmosphere at a low cost.

The food of Krone B is inspired by the Nordic kitchen. The menu is based on raw produce of the season - mainly regional, sustainable and organic. The kitchen has certificates from The Ecological Foodmark 30-60 %, Green Key and Refood.

The kitchen is of international standard and able to cater both minor meetings, private parties and big gala dinners at the castle.
