The Bahamas coat of arms is a compositionof things indigenous to
these islands, whilethe motto Forward Upward OnwardTogether heralds
to the direction andmanner in which the Bahamian nationshould move.
The crest of the arms, a light pink conchshell, symbolizes the
marine life of TheBahamas. The top of the crest is composedof wavy
green palm fronds, symbolic of thenatural vegetation. The Santa
Maria,flagship of Christopher Columbus, appearson the shield of the
coat of arms. Wavybarreled of blue symbolize the waters of
TheBahamas. The shield is charged with aresplendent or radiant sun

Bahamian Political LeaderIngraham, HubertAlexander(nggrm),
1947-, Bahamian political leader,prime minister of the Bahamas
(1992-2002,2007-), b. Coopers Town, Abaco. A lawyer,Ingraham
started his political career as amember of the Progressive Liberal
party(PLP), becoming party chairman in 1976. Hewas elected to
parliament (1977, 1982) as aPLP member, and served as minister
ofhousing and national insurance from 1982to 1984, when he resigned
over conflictswith party leaders. He then joined the FreeNational
Movement (FNM) and was electedparty leader in 1990. Ingraham
becameprime minister following the FNMs victoriesin 1992 and 1997.
The PLP defeated theFNM in the 2002 elections, but Ingrahamand the
FNM were returned to power in2007. As prime minister, he has taken
stepsto control drug trafficking and regulateoffshore financial
services.

western Andean region of the country sheep and camelids (llamas,

The various types of resources that can produce energy have not
been fully exploited yet in Bolivia, due to lack of investment. In
eastern Bolivia and the deserts of the Chaco region there are more
or less long seasons of strong winds that would be ideal for
wind-based energy and the rivers in these areas are also ideal for
hydroelectric energy.
