Tips for GOOD Think Alouds!

TIP#1Think about what you are reading WHILE

you are reading, not after you have finished. Pay attention to what you are

think about when you are reading.

If your mind starts to stray away from what you are reading…….READ IT

AGAIN!!!

TIP #2

Be aware of words or phrases that are new to you. If you

do not know what something means….JOT it

down….Circle it…..Underline it……DO SOMETHING!!

Make a Connection!Try to relate what you are reading with something personal that you have experienced.

Let’s put the strategy to use.

• Abraham Lincoln showed great character from an early age. There is a story about when young Abe borrowed a book from a neighbor. To keep the book safe, Abe would store it in a crack in the cabin. One night it rained, soaking the book through. Abe went to his neighbor right away, told him what had happened and offered to pay for the book. The neighbor was happy that Abe had told him the truth and had taken responsibility for what had happened. Because of events like this, Abe was known for much of his life as” Honest Abe.”

OK!!!!
