Mindomo

As we move to more online software. There is a great new free mind mapping software. There are many packages available online (most offering the same basic experience) but we shall look at Mindomo:

This is free software which works from internet explorer on any computer. There are even more features which can be unlocked by purchasing a licence.

Simply click ‘Sign Up’ to begin creating.

You will be asked to fill in your details and register. Once you have a confirmation email and have clicked the link in that email, you are ready to begin.

There are two different screens you may encounter:

This screen (right) is used to move between different mind maps you have created. You can use this screen to get to the help section (click ‘more’ then ‘help’) which has lots of step-by-step guides on how to do everything.

This screen (left) is used to create a new mind map. All the editing tools are around the edges of the screen.

It is quick and easy to create mind maps for any topic. These tools are useful for students sharing ideas. They can be made in very little time and the one below on the Emperors takes 5mins. Possible use: help structure 10 and 25 mark essays for AS and A2 set text essay questions.

It is a useful tool to aid students learning vocabulary. You must first create an account:

Once you put in your details, then you are ready to go. There are two things you can do. Revise a list which someone else has made or create your own.

Clicking ‘topics’ (top right of the screen) lets you choose lists that already exist. Try searching ‘Latin’ to see what things might be useful. You could even create your own lists using the link on the right. We shall demonstrate this on the course.

I am told by my students that this is the best way to learn vocabulary and many of them are obsessed with updating their vocabulary ‘gardens’
