Cabinet Fixture Product Description (<750 words)

“Our cabinet fixture innovation is a product that holds various dish utensils, such as a sponge and scrub brush. Our product is known as a cabinet fixture because it attaches to the inside of a cabinet door. There are two countersink holes in the back of the product that allows an attachment method to the inside of the cabinet door. Storing your dish utensils underneath your kitchen sink will allow customers fast and easy access to the sponge and brush used to wash dishes. There are also holes in the bottom to ventilate the utensils so they dry quickly, leaving out moisture and the growth of bacteria from previously washed dishes. This also ensures that there is minimal undue smell due to lack of aeration. This technique is a liable way to prevent mildew and bacteria growth. Sponges are to be placed in this container when you are finished cleaning with them instead of leaving them in the sink where constant moisture and bacteria can form.“ (Marcus Brown, Israel Chavez, & Brenton Davis, Level 1 Engineers)

“We add a dash of style to your kitchen with our cabinet fixture by making the structure out of red polyethylene. For all of our accessory lovers that are fond of red, this is something you need to have. Our product overall measurements are 4.25” width, 3.25” depth , and a 2” height. This innovation takes up very little space, so you can maximize kitchen space while making it as beautiful as ever. This idea was built with customer satisfaction in mind.” (Nhat Nguyen, Level 1 Engineer)

“This innovation will use simple designs such as a basin, hook, and countersink holes to make a big difference in the way people store their dish utensils. Our cabinet fixture will allow customers to clean dishes with the tools they need and store them in one spot. Unlike leaving the sponge out in the open, this product allows the sponge to dry fast and clean. These simple ideas may lead to a huge decrease in bacteria on the kitchen site. The use of this product innovation is simple. Just install it in your cabinet or any storage area you want your dish utensils to dry. This layout for the utensils will make the sink look much more clean and organized.” (Xuong, Level 3 Engineer)

This will, as said before, will benefit different people that commonly use dish cleaning utensils. After all, no one wants to clean something with a bacterial infested utensil and then eat out of it. This product innovation may potentially decrease health risks in house hold and may benefit people in different ways such as a ripple effect of innovation.” (Xuong, Level 3 Engineer)

Furthermore, our product innovation will partner with Charlotte Pipe and Foundry, “the leading full-line manufacturer of ABS pipe and fittings and PVC pipe and fittings for drainage systems.” (Charlotte Pipe & Foundry) In this partnership, we will obtain our raw stock material from their scrap pvc manufacturing process free of cost.

Cabinet Fixture Purpose Statement (<500 words)

328 / 500 words

Our cabinet fixture innovation is needed to keep a moisture-free place for customers to store their dish

cleaning utensils such as their sponge and scrub brush. This means that you need to keep the sponge away from germs and bacteria that can build up and potentially cause infectious disease to your health. This cabinet fixture will help customers keep their dish cleaning utensils away from the sink where a lot of moisture can build up and make contact with the sponge. Since the sponges get a nasty smell because it stays wet from constant use of the sink, more bacteria builds up. Therefore, our innovation will have holes on the bottom so that air can come through and dry the sponge more efficiently. Our cabinet fixture will help the dishwashing process by keeping dish cleaning utensils away from wet, bacteria infested surfaces. In other words, our cabinet fixture will help combat the spread of bacteria to your dishes.

VAOE’s cabinet fixture will be very easy to make so they are intended to be sold for a reasonable price. Sponge brush holders are sold almost everywhere right now but ours is distinctly different. Our cabinet fixture will make us money so we can obtain more equipment in class to make us more successful in engineering careers. This invention will be very easy to make because of the technical skills we have learned in class. For example, we have prototyped this innovation to test that it really works. Then we have modified the parts of the cabinet fixture that need adjusting.

An additional purpose this cabinet fixture beyond keeping the sponges and brushes away from moisture , engineering students are developing skills necessary for engineering employment. Our product will help support Vance Academy of Engineering financially and through technical skill learning. We will continue to partner with more companies that will help bring our product to market. This cabinet fixture innovation is very environmentally friendly in more ways than one.

Fixture Gabinete Declaración de Propósito: (<500 words)

302 / 500 words

Community Benefit Statement (<250 words)

217 / 250 words

By creating this innovation we are developing a win-win situation for our school, communities, and for the companies. Companies that create cleaning utensils, for example Rubbermaid would benefit from this innovation so that way if we get our product on the market people will purchase our sponge brush holder and buy sponges. Another way this innovation will benefits us is that we will get exceptional, publicity for our engineering academy and our school. Since we only have a minimum amount of students we believe that by developing this innovation and applying for the grand prize, it will show students that our engineering program can benefit the school and the future classes of the engineering courses and if we achieve the grand prize our school will be able to buy new equipment for our classroom. Creating a product this big will help provide job opportunities for our communities. “The unemployment rate in Charlotte, NC is 10.3 %” (areavibes.com)

Keep in mind, that not all innovations turn out the way you want it. For example if this product fails, we can learn from our failures and later on we can invent a new product that is better and more successful. “Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed on an equal or greater benefit.” (Napoleon Hill)

Standard Deviation Summation

The stock block is what we are going to use to manufacture our cabinet fixture design. The width of that stock must be cut between the tolerance (IE 4.375”-4.125”). Our histogram indicates 6 standard deviations outside our tolerance. The further away each stock block measurement is away from our tolerance, the less quality the final design becomes.

“Using this method helps us create more accurate products eliminating wasteful products and time

to make a new one. We can use this process in the future to ensure customer satisfaction.”

(Marcus, Israel)

What we have learned working on the cabinet fixture design is how to calculate the standard deviation, (Jose /Naseem.)
