The architecture design is examined in relation to contemporary culture, history, technology, techniques and places. From this perspective, the degree programme intends to produce a designer-constructor whose knowledge is based on theoretical and techno-scientific foundations, that are consistent with present and future demand for practical knowledge. The scientific-cultural design is aimed at the development of the knowledge required for contemporary intervention in conservation and restoration of modern and ancient architecture. The two veins ‘Old’ and ‘New’ are distinguished especially in the integrated studios and choice of related and integrated subjects. energy saving, which have taken on an important role in contemporary design practice. The design studios are supported by single-subject courses that examine core subject areas as well as those related and integrated. These latter are chosen by the student from a list of courses that might provide further support to the chosen track, whilestill offering a useful vision of education as an architect. This form of education can also be joined by complementary experimentation, such as intensive seminars. The final semester, the fourth, is entirely devoted to preparing the final exam and assessment, using experimental forms of interrelation with units of research active on themes of scientific and teaching interest.

Professional profileGraduates with a graduate degree in Architecture for the Old and New may work on a self-employed basis or hold positions of high responsibility, whether in public and private institutions and bodies (institutional bodies, public and private bodies and companies, professional studios and design companies) that operate in construction, transformation of the city and territory. In order to work on a self-employed basis, graduates must take a Professional Licensing Examination; upon passing they can enrol in the professional register of Architects, Planners, Landscape Designers and Curators or Conservators / Section A. The curriculum of a graduate degree programme in Architecture complies to EU directives on “diplomas, certificates and other evidence of formal qualifications for the pursuit of the architecture-related activities under the professional title of ‘architect’” guaranteeing that the qualification can be used internationally.

Graduates will then be qualified to work in the following regulated professions:– architect– professional agronomist and forester– civil and environmental engineer– landscape designer– regional planner.
