A life of poverty is an essential element in the life, ministries and services of priests and religious. St. Francis of Assisiidentified himself with Christ, with the poverty of Christ in thecrib and on the cross. Many religious congregations have takenSt. Francis of Assisi as their father, patron and model. What ispredominantly striking in the life of St. Francis of Assisi is his lifeof radical poverty, total dependence on God. All the religiousare called to bear witness to Christ the poor by a life of radicalpoverty.

This life of poverty takes us closer to the poor people inthe society. Christ associated himself in a special way with thepoor, the sinners and the outcaste (Lk. 15:2). We are exhortedto “remember the poor” (Gal. 2:10) in a special way, to shareour riches with the poor generously and to serve the poorcheerfully. Pope Francis repeatedly reminds us that the churchis of the poor and for the poor. Who we are to the pooris more important than what we do for the poor. Following theexample of Christ, let us identify ourselves with the poor. Weshould always keep in mind that being with the poor is moreimportant than doing for the poor. We wish and pray that allthe religious be poor, be with the poor and be for thepoor in our society.

Every year on 2nd February we celebrate the feast of thePresentation of our Lord in the temple. This day is observed asthe day of consecrated life. We offer our prayerful wishes andcongratulations to all the Religious in our Archdiocese. By theirconsecrated presence, by their exemplary lives and dedicated

services, they make significant contribution to the growth of ourArchdiocese.

Mary carried Jesus in her arms to the temple and offeredhim to God. Through the hands of Mary, let us all -priests,religious and the laity in our Archdiocese – offer ourselves toGod.

Fr. A.Kulandai Yesu Raja Rev. Fr. J.M. Gregory Louis JosephSecretary to the Archbishop Procurator

From the Desk of VicarsThe art of communication, we learn from the Blessed Trinity.Consciousness (SON) of the Truth (GOD) flows out as bliss (SPIRIT)with the children of God it is the same for all. For the members ofthe Catholic Church, Jesus Christ is the model. In our Archdiocesewe have weekly Sarva Viabi, the monthly News Letter and otherforms of dialogue and communication. For the Newsletter to bevibrant our Archbishop shares his monthly concerns and otherdetails. The Judicial Vicar and the Pastoral Director share their viewsand news in addition to others now and then. To make the Newsletterreally vibrant during this Synodal year 2019, all the priests, thereligious and the lay leaders are invited to share joyfully someimportant news useful to all. All of us have the responsibility towardsthe will and plan of God, carried out through the Local Church.

As we are invited “to feel with the church”, may we be moved towrite for the Newsletter about their own area of operation andconcern so that we know where the church stands. Instead of beingisolated, let us relate with all to become ecclesial true to our call, parishes, vicariates and the diocese are the triple basic forms andstructures for animation, guidance and service. The spirituality ofthe diocesan priests invites us to share our life and service otherwisewe know the results at the grass root level. Building up the localchurch as members is more important than any other buildings. The growth of our people in faith, in catechesis, basic Christiancommunity, sub-stations, parishes, vicariates, diocese need to befollowed by their respective persons now and then through theNewsletter. The sharing has to flow without any force from anybody. If we have been consistent, we would have Christ’s faithful beyondthe tragedy of caste, colour, ethnicity, language, rite etc. If the LocalChurch has to be an example for others we need to stand up andbear vibrant witnesses today. When the Risen Lord is with us, let usalways wake up and continue our pilgrimage towards the Reign ofGod.

Points to Ponder:

Family is a unique gift that needs to be appreciated andtreasured, even when they are driving you crazy. As muchas they make you mad, interrupt you, annoy you, curse atyou, try to control you, these are the people who knowyou the best and who love you. – Jenna Morasca. When your focus shifts from competition to contribution, life becomes a celebration. “It is impossible to find a saint who did not take the “twoP’s” seriously: Prayer and Penance.” St. Francis Xavier, sj* The greatest healing therapy is friendship and love. –Hubert H. The single most important ingredient in the recipe forsuccess is transparency because transparency buildstrust. –Denise Morrison In your anger do not sin. Do not let the sun go downwhile you are still angry. – Eph.4:26.

Let us offer our ministries for the souls in purgatory whowill in return pray that we may learn to die to our ‘ego’during the Lenten season in order to rise with Him onEaster. 1. World Youth Day Panama -2019              The 16th International World Youth Day is held in Panama(Central America) from 22 to 27 January 2019 with the theme “I amthe servant of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word”(Lk 1:38).   They were five intense days filled with a lot of emotion, along with Pope Francis, there were around 800,000 young pilgrimsfrom more than 150 countries. It was a wonderful chance for theyoung people all over the world having a personal contact with Pope;a chance to strengthen their Faith in God; and a chance for the youth tomake friend from different   countries so to learn how to live harmonizingwith others in an universal church. I was so privileged to participate inWYD Panama. I learned and enjoyed every minute of the program. It was really grace filled moment for me. It has been full of beautifuland joyful moments. There are so many memorable moments filledwith God’s grace.

An Indian delegation of some 56 young people participated inWYD. The young pilgrims from across India landed in Panama onJanuary 15 and were hosted in the parish of Atalaya in the diocese   ofSantiago de veragues, for the preliminary “ Days in the Dioceses” eventof the WYD. They are accompanied by 9 priests, a nun. They tookpart in spiritual, cultural social initiatives. During a Eucharistic celebrationon 17 January, the Indian delegation demonstrated the culture   of ourcountry. The next day they dedicated themselves to mission and sharingtourism, including planting trees in response to the green exhortation ofPope Francis in his encyclical ‘Laudato Si’. Each family in Atalayahosted two Indians for the Days in the dioceses. In Panama city, theIndian youth are guests at the church of Santa Eduviges. They were

five intensive days filled with many programs and activities with PopeFrancis namely opening ceremony, Inaugural Mass, Youth catechesis,Day of forgiveness, Youth Festival,   Vocational Fair, Faith walk, wayof the cross, vigil service, Exhibits, Dance, Discussions, Holy Massand Farewell ceremony.
